Karmine Alers is the best. I think, hands down, that she is the most talented star on broadway. No "if", "and" or "buts" about it. There are many stars that come close. Destan Owens is amazing as well as Idina Menzel, but Karmine is Broadways #1 star.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your opinion.

Could you offer some specific examples of why you feel she is the greatest performer on Broadway?

I really liked it when I saw her in Rent this summer. She was great performing Out Tonight and tears were rolling down my cheeks during Goodbye Love. The clips from her album definitely make me want to go out and get it.

i've seen her a few times, and yes she is simply amazing. But i feel like she's been in this role, or involved with RENT somehow for like 40 years or something.

Does anyone know when her current contract is up?

i think she is one of the strongest actors in rent at the moment. her out tonight is amazing.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

FosseBoi~ You were disappointed huh. I think I might have liked half of them overall. It is hard to tell with how short the clips are.

I agree with you that it IS hard to tell from just little clips. But like I said, I only hearda FEW of the clips. I'll go back right now and listen to the rest. I'll report back with my opinion.re: Karmine Alers

Karmine is awesome. She was Mimi both times I saw Rent, and I was amazed at how good she was.

I think her last performance as Mimi is October 16th. (I think!!!) After that, she will stay with teh show as a swing. re: Karmine Alers

I really dont like the "OUT Tonight" thing.re: Karmine Alers I like a few of those clips, but others I dont. I'll still get her CD though, just because she's Karmine Alers and I HAVE to support her!lol!re: Karmine Alers

Karmine is an amazing Mimi who really has the whole package: the voice, the moves and plays the role with sexy yet vulnerable personality re: Karmine Alers

I am not suprised that she is getting such great reviews.

Her sister was my all time favorite Mimi out of roughly 10-15 different actress. (Yes I saw Daphne multiple times) Yassmin was simply phenominal and was just a sweet as can be also.

Karmine's great. I've seen her a bunch of times in Rent, as Maureen, Mimi and Mark's mom. She shines as Mimi tho! She adds her own unique 'pop/belt' voice to the role and nails it. I got chills last time!

I just went to her site and listened to the clips......her voice sounds so different than she does live!! Maybe it's my computer or something....I hope so, because it still sounds good to me but if it sounds so different than she does live it must have been tampered with by computers and such, right? It just sounds like she lost that unique quality that she gets as Mimi.

I saw her as Mimi my first time back in 2002 ... she was absolutely phenomenal. I haven't seen her in enough different things to say she is the most talented star on Broadway.

She was one of the only things I liked about Rent. She was AMAAAZING! There were 2 people I would give standing ovations for when I saw Rent--Justin Johnston(?) and Karmine. Karmine BLEW me away!!

I never saw Karmine in the role of "Mimi" (I saw Daphne Rubin-Vega and Marcy Harriell -- both of whom were absolutely amazing) but I know that either Daphne, Marcy, or Karmine would have been wonderful in the film version, along with the rest of the OBC, if the powers that be had only decided to choose someone who is actually capable of singing and acting to play the role.

But unfortunately they didn't.

Well, Daphne was pregnant and frankly too old to play Mimi in the film. Have no idea if Marcy was approached and I doubt seriously that Karmine was considered.

I assume you've seen the movie already to make such an absolute statement about Rosario's inability to perform the role? Feel free to tell us specifically what you didn't like about her performance.

Honey - no matter how many times you say the same thing, the movie's still in the can, and your whining isn't going to fix anything. We get the point.

(love love LOVE Marcy Harriel, by the way.)

Go see "Verona," read the critiques on the message boards, or listen to the clips there and you'll know why instantly.

Her voice is weak and her acting abilities "can be fit onto a piece of confetti with room to spare" to paraphrase one quote.

Don't worry, I plan to see Two Gents. I also plan to form my own opinions, when all evidence is in place, thank you.
