Katie took the stage tonight (official opening on the 16th) and Sutton, Idina, and Kristin all better scoot over. Katie was FLAWLESS. If you've seen Piazza before (and you all have) GO AGAIN. She will blow your socks off. What a stellar performance by a very, very gifted actress. The show is in great shape and her performance adds to it. She is AMAZING.
BRAVA BRAVA BRAVA!!!
im confused. how did she go today if she does open until much later? thnks for the review. though could you add more, like interpretation, voice, etc?

"Did she really go on?"
Doogie, yes, she REALLY did. Why would I make that up? Yes, her put in was this afternoon. Yes, she did do the show tonight.
When a person takes over a role they are given the equivalent to previews to work themselves into the show. The press will be invited on the 16th - the official opening for her.
Her interp was very well thought out and delievered. Clara was fully brought to life. Her voice was angelic when it needed to be and full and strong when the moment called for it. She sang the show, again flawlessly and acted the part very well. She is the perfect addition to the cast. And she is HOT.
this is SO EXCITING!!!! can't wait to see Piazza again.
i wanna see her
Isn't Katie fantastic?? I went to school with her @ Sam Houston and we had the same voice teacher....She's so amazing. It was so crazy how she got the part too...She just wasn't in class for like 2 weeks and no one knew where she was. Even our voice teacher was like "oh she has really bad senioritis..." Then one day it's like "did you hear what happened to Katie??!!" I'm glad y'all enjoyed her performance! I hope I can get up there to see her!!!

I will hopefully be catching "Piazza" when I make my first trip to NYC in January.
That's weird, they said Jennifer Hughes would be going on until the 16th. Well, good for Katie for learning the role so quickly and going on less than two weeks after being cast.

i am so glad that Katie is getting a warm reception and being embraced so nicely! Kelli is a tough act for anyone to have to follow but its so nice you guys are so supportive!

As was reported here by others last week, she first went on last Friday - way ahead of the scheduled put-in and press nights. Now, that has also been confirmed by various press reports.
P.S. She is TERRIFIC!

As much as I value my socks, I'd love to see the show again. It is always good to hear of a newcomer doing well.
Does anyone have links to any of the press reports on Katie Clarke's performances?
I don't think press reports are due out until after the 16th.
Regardless, I thought Kelli interpreted the role flawlessly before. It's good to hear that Clara is in good hands with Katie. I'll certainly catch this another time (if not more) before July 2nd...
cookie -- I know that the official reviews will be after the 16th, but I was just asking in reference to an earlier statement in this thread that her performance "has also been confirmed by various press reports." I just wanted specifics on these "press reports."
mea culpa, Hanna! They would be interesting to see
This is certainly great news! "Light" was one of my 2 favorite shows from last season and I will definitely catch it again in the Spring.

Many replacements only get two weeks of rehearsal. I remember talking briefly to Brooke Shields after "Wonderful Town" and she said that both new sisters only got just under two weeks of rehearsal. So...this is nothing new...it is still amazing though when you think that people usually get a month of rehearsals and a month of previews and replacements are thrown right to the dogs. I LOVED Kelli O'Hara and had my own ideas of who I wanted to see in the role but I am certainly looking forward to making a return visit to this glorious show and lending my support to the new cast. I've heard that Aaron Lazar is terrific.
If you do your prep work and homework, 10 days is usually more than sufficient to be able to perform the role. I mean, you basically LIVE the part 24x7 for that time. LIVING the character is what usually takes much longer. Kelli O'Hara kind of mentions it in her Playbill interview that she was so frightened because she was working so much character stuff out on stage in Piazza and wanted people to come back and see her later once she was breathing as Clara.
I thought Katie was a wonderful actress. She brings a lot of new things to the role that I didn't see before Kelly. She chose to make her a little more obviously young, psychologically speaking, and I wasn't sure how I felt about it because it changed the show but it was a choice and she stuck with it. Her voice didn't seem to have nearly as much of the weight as Kelly O'Hara which was also kind of interesting because it seemed right for the role but also seemed to lack a bit of exuberance. By the way.... Victoria has grown sooooo much. She was breathtaking.
