I have it from a VERY reputable source that Spring Awakening is in danger because it isn't selling as well as it needs to.
Guys- HELP! Buy the CD in stores or on Itunes, talk it up to your friends, and most of all- GO SEE THE SHOW. If you care that real, evocative, amazing theater can last on Broadway- do what you can!
Keep Spring Awakening OPEN!

You've just joined today. Until the grosses are posted, I'm afraid that I can't really believe you.

I've lurked this place for months- I just don't like posting on message boards. I just felt like this was important enough to post.
My source is a cast member. PLEASE guys, you need to help!
FYI you might not wanna say " I heard from a source." People would be less likely to belive you because your info has no credibally sp? For all we know, you could just be making it up. I am not saying you are I am just saying why you shouldn't start out by saying you heard from a source.
How could a show that did so much in advance sales? I have to agree, until I see the week's sale I can't belive anything. What cast member is just passing around info. A show that has been selling SRO tickets...hmm does not add up.

They didn't do that well in advance sales. They did double what they'd done but it wasn't enough, 150,000 is not enough to keep a show open, even a show as "small," as Spring Awakening.

It's pretty simple, Mattbrain. Just click on "broadway grosses" right here on this very site.
Spring Awakening did 60% capacity last week, average ticket price under $60. Do the math. You don't need an inside source to tell you the show's in trouble. BellaRosa is probably telling the truth.

The advertising needs work. I really hope it stays. It is such a great show.

I believe I read the weekly nut is $400,000.
They've been taking in about $300,000 at most thus far.
Well GG was only at a little above 70%. It can't close, because it needs to win the Tony...if it does it is basically just giving the award to GG.

again, though this show doesn't appeal to younger, and older people.. it's mostly mid-teens to early adulthood. I doubt any parents would rather see Spring Awakening instead of POTO, BATB, or Wicked.
The only way the show is gonna stay is if we make hype about it!
BtMartin25 is certainly closed minded. I really want the grosses to come out this week. I heard they sold of a couple nights this week.

Wait until the post-Holiday grosses come out. The numbers'll change a good bit and hopefully the good word-of-mouth will get a boost.

That was last week. Things change. The raves have been absolute love letters. The cast recording is number 3 in the soundtrack sales. It's been proclaimed the best new musical of the season by Ben Brantley. We should be spreading the word ourselves. I'm telling you. Things can only get better for this show.
It's clear that Spring Awakening needs to be doing better in regard to ticket sales. I don't doubt 13ella is telling the truth. Whoever is in charge of promotion really needs to step up. They need a street team, or several national T.V appearances to REALLY generate interest.
i don't know i have really no desire to see this. Nothing about it has seem to grab me. Esspecially the music. I wish it the best of a run though.

There will be a street team Jan & Feb, and they're presently in the process of recruiting. Salary will be paid in free tickets and basic merchandise from the show.
oh thats hot..if I went to college in nyc i would. but i go to school in Philadelphia and I start rehersals for Rocky Horror soon...wish i lived closer though, sounds fun.
Thing is that most street teaming for broadway shows is done at one place the TKTS booth. The only people who go there are people who have no idea what the f*** is playing on broadway. Iguess it could help having them there but they need to expand I think.
Buying the cd will not keep a show open. If you want to keep a show open then go buy tickets.
Why attack the original post? Instead of arguing the validity of it why don't you go buy a ticket- who cares who the person is! Even if it was someone involved with the show that joined yesterday to ask everyone to please go see their show- WHO CARES?! The person's posting was not negative- they simply asked for people to help the show.
Any show is in danger of closing these days if it doesn't have someone like Warner Brothers, Universal or Disney behind it (i.e. mega bucks). And remember weekly grosses show only that- GROSS- not NET. We have no idea the costs associated with cast, production, crew, advertising, publicity, marketing, web, and on and on. Gross means very little to the general public because a show could gross $400K but cost just as much in associated costs torun.
Tourists want to see a "sure thing" or something they have heard about. This is why crap like Wedding Singer (oh I remember the film!), All Shook Up (I like Elvis), Good Vibrations (the Beach Boys songs are fun), etc run for awhile (sometimes too long).
This is why all the Disney crap continues to sell. Its safe. Everyone knows what it is.
