I don't think it's the original post that needs to be attacked, if any it should be Mattbrain's ignorant comment on it.
how was it ignorant?

I'll apologize when I see the weekly grosses for this week.

Oh, thanks. No, seriously. I can understand how it would come across as mean. But I'm just the kind of guy who needs to see the proof, y'know? I just love this show and I pray to God that it's still around in the next two months. It was one of my presents today. I got through the whole CD in one sitting. It was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
i talkked to the the lady who's like, the door man at sa and she says while they aren't totall financially out of the woods yet they are picking up
and i'm seeing it 2 more times this week, think it'll be alrght
and to whoever said it only appeals to teens........ well so did hair, and rent, and look where that got them
CHRISTINE(!!!) runs the door at the O'Neill. She is the best.
FINALLY!! that is her name. yes she is beyond nice and will chat with you forever.
You guys, I'm with Matt on this. Relax, until we see the grosses this week. Is it a tough show to sell without brand name recognition yet? Yes, absolutely, and the fact that it's not a "family" show makes it harder still. Still, it got the best reviews in ten years. The buzz is huge. This is the "must see" show for everyone that loves theatre. If the gross increases this week, which traditionally isn't a great one for Broadway, then that would be a sign that word is getting out. The production has three Tony award winning producers as the lead producers. Every well produced show has a reserve that is built to withstand months of slow business. My hunch is that this show will still be around when it wins the Tony and for years after that.
I love it. Buy the CD. Keep the show open.
With logic like that, it's no wonder this show won't see spring, let alone February.
You guys can't go on one weeks grosses. The fact is that Spring Awakening is not getting the ticket sales that were expected. Yes, it could be like Avenue Q and pick up, but that's not a guarantee.
Even if the original poster is not a friend of a castmember, they speak the truth that sales need to pick up. You guys are attacking someone on your side.
You can't judge from last and this coming week's gross as these are holiday weeks (remember, last year (12/29) every ticket at TKTS was sold out?). The real test comes during Jan/Feb.
And, I don't know the ratio of residency of BWW posters, but I assume many posters live outside of NYC. That means, even if they like the CD, it's a bit challenging to get to NYC to support the show. The show has to draw the people who are in the City (living and/or visiting) during this winter time. The group sales department has to work overtime!
This show must have one of the worst marketing and publicity teams in the history of Broadway theatre. He, she, they, should be arrested. To receive the kind of reviews this show has received, and to completely drop the ball and not capitalize on it should be a crime. It's a Goddamn shame!
Just bought my tickets today and I'm super excited...considering that John Gallagher is an alum from my community theater (which makes me so happy), I hope it lasts FOREVER. For the person who said its only for teens, thats not exactly true..but I can see where there coming from. I just think that theres a huge base of non-theater people that it can appeal to, that won't be able to see it because...their non-theater people. And a lot of the people the show could appeal to still need their parents approval and help to get to a show...and it might not be the parents top pick for their kids. I think the show could have a massive appeal to a lot of kids who can't get there.
Though, my chorus teacher told me that they were saying the same things about Rent when it first opened...and its run for ten years.
Either way, I hope the show lasts for a long time, and I can't wait to see it on Wednesday
((Not to threadjack, but since most of you here have seen it, I was just wondering if the cast members usually come out after a mattine if they have a show that night...))

THANK YOU!!!

Luscious,
how are they not capitalizing on it? I heard a new radio ad they did with the new reviews and it was great. I saw two full page color ads in the NYT with the new reviews. I've seen that walking billboard they have for their street times which is basically a video screen which their street teams lug around Times Sq. They were on repeat all this weekend on Theatre Talk. According to their MySpace, the cast will be interviewed on the 10'oclock news tomorrow on Channel 9. The CBS interview with Duncan Sheik was posted about here, and on "the self posting video site which must not be named" I saw another CBS interview with the cast. There's probably a ton of other stuff which I missed (would love it people can add anything I've missed). They're also getting a lot of free publicity with all the Top Ten lists and year end wrap ups. Why spend a LOT of money when people are already talking about the show? Save your powder for the slower months of Jan and Feb. Makes sense to me if their advance is already covering them well enough in Dec. You seem to think you could do a better job than the three Tony winning producers who are the lead producers. What would YOU do? Seems like all people like Luscious do is whine and complain without presenting any positive alternatives.
get them on the view some how.
When I went to see this show about a week ago (Saturday Night), it definitly was not sold out, there were very visible spots open. But the scary part is: the theatre looked really small seatwise in comparison to the likes of the Gershwin, Al Hirschfeld, or even the Walter Kerr. So I don't doubt the validity of the original poster.
And I know Grey Gardens is only selling out 70% but does that count those sh** seats in the third tier. I would NEVER sit up there, it seems like its lightyears away from stage.
i talked to one of the cast members last night on myspace and he said that they really are doing fine and ppl need to stop worrying....... and he also, hey, they're spring awakening, **** closing
i don't really get the last line of that message.
cant imagine there is any way this show will close in the next month while tourits are buzzing around.
however, unless something changes big time, i cant see it lasting through february.
as soon as this baby shows up on tdf (its always been at times when i have stuff going on) im all over it.
