It's been proclaimed the best new musical of the season by Ben Brantley.
MattBrain- Ben Brantley never reviewed the show, and if he did say that I would like to see the link. If he never did say it, you are posting false information.

neddyfrank, Brantley said that on his "top 10" shows of the year list. This is what Brantley said
"Infusing Frank Wedekind’s 1891 play about young lust with rock ’n’ roll rawness, this sleeper hit easily qualifies as the year’s best new musical."

It has been on TDF all day for a 1/1/07 show @ 2 PM
Mrs R saw it & immediately ordered tickets. As of 5:45 PM, it is still there

Yeah he [Brantley] wrote about it in his top ten shows of 2006.
EDIT: The scan didn't work for some reason.

My mom saw it on TDF today too...but we already have tickets for January.
I want to buy on-stage tickets for febuary, but I'm hesitating. I don't know if my mom will think the show is too racy and too sexual. Also, are the onstage tickets worth the money? THanks.

Depends on how your mom takes S&M and some profanity.
This show is a much harder sell than Gray Gardens
Whichever does not get the Tony will probably close if they are still around by June. I am not being cruel just realistic. Both are not exactly shows tourists will flock to - great reviews not withstanding. The next 3 months will be critical for both
Renthead, if you want onstage seats, you better buy them soon. There's talk on the MySpace site that on stage seats are already sold out in January and there is only limited availability in Feb. Most of the posters there get on stage seats again and again. They recommend that you see it from the house the first time, but say that sitting on stage is amazing because you are "in" the action.
Can't help you with your mom. You should let her hear the music and then decide. If you don't have the CD, there are clips on the official website www.springawakening.com and on their Myspace site below.

- Your parents are actually going to take you to see this? Didn't they flip out over RENT. How are the going to handle masterbation and sex scenes with nudity?
I got January 1st tickets. I'm seeing it for the second time (or third...I might go Saturday)! Can't wait!
McFrenzied just tell your mom certain things that are going to happen like masturbation, sex scenes and, nudity. And, there's a lot of language. If she says she wouldn't like to see that then don't take her.
the last line of my post from before 4 those of u who couldnt understand it was me saying that one of the cast members of sa said
"we're spring awakening, f*ck closing"
>Most of the posters there get on stage seats again and again.
Well, that's great to show their support for the show, but it's not supporing the bottom line (gross) unfortunately. If they want this show to survive, they need to pay the full price. They need those patrons who can and will pay the full price.
>"we're spring awakening, f*ck closing"
It sounds arrogant, but good to know that they have a confidence. This is one of the cast saying right? Not one of the producers? I hope not.

ljay, yeah, I'm not going with my parents, just my sister and I
yeah, I would never in a million years go with my parents!
"I would never in a million years go with my parents!"
Ding Ding Ding! And that is exactly why this show is having trouble selling tickets.

I went during previews with my ancient dad and 3 close friends. They all enjoyed it a lot, and I feel that if you have a pretty decent relationship with your parent it won't feel uncomfortable watching the nudity and feigned masturbation on stage. I saw Little Dog Laughed with my mom, and that has full on male frontal nudity. I think the best way to sell it to your parents is to discuss the importance of a production that assesses such timeless topics that affect all teenagers. As all the reviewers have stressed, there's nothing vulgar about it.
By the demographic represented in this thread, I'm an old fart, albeit one who took his 15 1/2 year old son to this show. We both loved it, and neither of us was seriously uncomfortable in the other's presence.
Parents, go for it. Kids, take the folks. It's a show about teenage feelings -- awakenings, yeah -- but it's not a show "for" teenagers, and it's not shaped as though formed with "insider" POV. It very seriously portrays a universal experience, coming of age, and explores it with great theatricality, style, and brimming emotion. Older people might find more to relate to here than in GREASE.
Young love and the attendant angst has been the stuff of musical theater from its inception. In many ways, it's closer in spirit to WEST SIDE STORY than, say, RENT. And it's not about a rarified world -- druggies on the lower east side. Anyone resisting should give it a chance.
I saw it Saturday, December 23rd. I had a great center orchestra seat (discounted) and I enjoyed it very much! Being in my 50's, I'm sure it didn't touch me as it would and will younger people, but after listening to the CD a few times since, I can't get it out of my mind! The show stays with you!
During intermission I went to the box office for two stage seats in Febrauary. They are only $30 each (plus fees), and although you get rear and side views...you also sit among the cast throughouth the show. You can't get any closer to the action onstage (OR AN EXTREMELY PLEASING BUTT) than that!
How often can you watch a Broadway show from the stage?
BUY A TICKET, SEE THE SHOW. You'll feel great afterwards!
do they hold any stage seats for the student rush line?

I got stage seats through student rush early on in previews, but now I doubt they'll be easy to come by.
Is the gay storyline a big part of the musical?

No more so than the other issues teens face in coming to terms with their sexuality in general. Same-sex orientation is presented in a rather "matter of fact" way- which certainly must have been more shocking in Wedekind's time than today. I guess still may shock some sheltered or bigoted folks in our time...
