This is fantastic, but there are tons of terrific singers (as Clarkson certainly is) who could sing the crap out of the material. That doesn't mean they are anywhere near appropriate to play the role, and she's not.
In fact, in talking about how badly she wants to guest star on PARKS & RECREATION recently, Clarkson made it a point to say she can't act and is well aware of it. She knows her limitations, and I actually find that quite refreshing (since she's been pursued to do theater regularly over the course of her career.)
Regardless, thanks for posting this! She sure is talented.
Oh, believe me, I know she's not. Just wanted to post the performance and figured I'd play on all the casting threads that pop up so often on here.
:)
a very interesting idea: a Fanny Brice who tweets in support of Ron Paul immediate after his undeniably anti-semitic newsletter posts hit the news.

I like Kelly and a great singer but she can't act and has no experience. I don't think the money people will risk putting on a costly production on an inexperienced actor, no way.
Nice idea, but she would first have to do a few years of minor roles at least.

Not every one knows that Baby Snooks spoke with a Texas twang.

With the exception of her wrongheaded endorsement of Ron Paul, I'm quite fond of Kelly Clarkson. That being said, the idea of her playing Fanny Brice is terrible idea on numerous levels.
I like Kelly a lot and would love to see her on Broadway. But I see her more as Annie in Annie Get Your Gun than Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.
Love that she did My Man at her show!
Singing a song heavily associated with a person, and actually playing the person are two very different endeavors. Same goes for changing the title of this thread from "Kelly Clarkson as Fanny Brice" to "Kelly Clarkson sings 'My Man'." This whole discussion thread now looks strange due to this change.
Ugh, she sounds amazing. She's so freaking talented.
That was absolutely wonderful! I'm impressed at how exceptional she is in singing the two different genres. I don't see her doing Fanny, though. Maybe something else.
she's amazing. an amazing singer.

Beautifully sung and good for Clarkson! (My favorite of her numbers on AI was "Stuff Like That There.") But as others have pointed out, singing "My Man" has little to do with actually playing Fanny Brice.
I hate her politics but she is indeed talented. I still enjoy listening to her singing Fiona's songs from "Brigadoon" when she played the role in high school.
Love her. Love this
