#0Kendra missing Wicked often?
Posted: 9/26/05 at 3:32pmHey everyone. I have a quick question. I've noticed that for about 50% of reviews of the Wicked Tour, Kendra has an u/s on. Does anyone know if she's sick or something? I mean, I thought she was OK as Glinda, but she seemed to be really straining. And now it seems like shes out A LOT. Does anyone know if she's sick, injured or just not up-to-par for some reason? Thanks!

Posted: 9/26/05 at 3:38pmThe show is here in Denver right now. She was on last Tuesday. But it was strange, they had a "The role of Glinda at this performance.." slip in the program. She may have been out over last weekend at some point. But everyone I know who has seen it here has seen her.

Posted: 9/26/05 at 4:22pmI know that she has been out at least twice since the show opened here in Denver on 9/16/05. I saw it on 9/17/05 and one of my co-workers saw it last week and she was out both of those.

Posted: 9/26/05 at 4:31pmHer and Steph were both on a 6 show/week schedule when they were in L.A. but I never found out what the reason was for Kendra's performances being limited. That basically meant that whoever saw them on a 2 show day always got an understudy for either Elphaba or Glinda. It seems Steph is back to 8 shows/ week, then, I haven't heard of her being out as of yet :)

Posted: 9/26/05 at 4:35pmI have heard rumors that Kendra has been missing shows in order to rehearse because producers were not happy with her sound. This could explain why she has seemed to improve of late. But there is no official reason for her missing all these shows.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.

It's between Kendra, her doctors, her producers ...or whoever else made the decision. We could go on and on making up reasons why but we don't really know and so until someone has first hand knowledge (which isn't really our business to know anyway) it's all just speculation.

If there is a reason she is out often, I will probably find out once the show leaves. Her sound was fine, her comic timing is a bit off even though she gets laughs on all of her funny lines. She just delivers them and doesn't always follow up with a look or gesture like Chenoweth. But she was good. She made me laugh. Her Popular was out of control the night I saw her. I was on the floor!

Kendra's singing was a bit wobbly when I saw her as well. Particularly on the high "legit" stuff. She belted the crap out of the Act 2 opener though. She's got some major pipes in the mid-range. But her comic abilities more than made up for any vocal shortcomings. "Popular" had me on the floor too! If you haven't seen her do this number yet... prepare yourself. I recommend wearing Depends.

Posted: 9/26/05 at 5:28pmI don't know why she was out a lot (and don't really care), but I do know that I saw Emily Rozek in the role, and thought she was fabulous. In any show, I'd rather see a strong understudy than a big name lead who's sick or something. Not that I wouldn't be dissapointed if it was someone I was looking forward to seeing, but I'd rather see a strong healthy performance by someone else.

Candleshoe - someone can correct me if she's been out but it seems her time off has allowed her to heal enough to be back for all 8 shows....yeah!! :)

Posted: 9/26/05 at 7:16pmWhen I saw it last week, I thought Kendra was doing a better job than Stephanie. Stephanie pretty much walked through the show. This kind of ruined the chemistry between the two and by the time they got to "For Good" it lacked an emotional punch. And this song can bring me to tears. It did when I saw the original cast in May of 2004. I am going to try for tix this Sunday (Its last day here).
