Threads like this are so wonderful. Let's all encourage negativity. Kendra's been doing the role for what? A week? Maybe two?

Why? They're doing something someone could never do, playing a leading role in a big musical, or played, and here we sit and argue about who's worse. Go try starring in a Broadway show, then come back and talk to me.

Honestly. It's one thing to critique a performance, but it's another to take two performers, who(regardless of how good/bad they play the role) work VERY hard to get and stay where they are, and insult them by asking who is worse. That's just obnoxious. And there's MY opinion.

I haven't seen or heard Kendra yet, but I saw LBB twice and she is my second-favorite Glinda. Kristin is #1.

I'm excited to see Kendra as Glinda. I'm also curious as to how many of the negative reviews have been because she played the role differently than Cheno/JLT (who were fabulous.) Different is sometimes not necessarily bad...
And this thread was really unnecesary. I've heard great things about Laura Bell Bundy.

i'm new at this..hello everyone...just wanted to say i've been reading people's posts for months and the complaints and negativity i find hilarious...i think it's rude and wrong to bash performances of people who work so hard and hopefully are doing their best work, but find it pretty funny that everyone argues over these things on this wonderful site. it is definitely entertaining...

Agreed that the tone could have eased up on the snark, but nonetheless, here's my .02: I saw LBB twice and actually really liked her. She was no KC, but she very much held her own.
Will be seeing Kendra in June, so I hope I like her--seeing Block will make it worthwhile no matter what, though. (LOVED her in TBFO)

I'm seeing the tour just to see Kendra.... she has stood out in two great shows when i saw them (Rent & Assassins) and i hope the best fore her....... She looks GORGEUS as Glinda i think ....

she doesn't. cheno did a lot of optional stuff because, well, she could. and the part was written for her. so the real score doesn't have some of that high stuff both in thank goodness and in no one mourns the wicked. so i'm sure kendra does not go as high if she's uncomfortable with it.

Well, I'm pretty sure that last note is written in the score for Glinda. Krisin, LBB, and JLT all sang that last note!

Whether they all sang it or not, it was apparently KC's call to choose to go a third above what Schwartz had written in the score. A few super high coloratura (SP?) notes are not going to make or break the performance.
I thought she was adorable in Rent and noticed a really nice operatic style as Mark's mom, so I hope I'll enjoy her in June!

oh. well i don't know which are written and which are optional. but it seems like cheno goes a fifth (i think it ends around f and cheno jumps to high c) above where she's supposed to be for that last note. but i never saw jlt or lbb do the part. so i could be wrong. but i mean, schwartz wrote the whole show for cheno, idina came on to the project later. so the role of galinda is written for a certain actor, so others might not be able to fill the role the same way exactly.
