Kerry Butler!!!

What is the deal with this woman??? I think that she is absolutely phenomenal. On the LSOH cast recording she really made the role her won. Why is she overlooked and why was there no Tony nod??? This woman could be unstoppable if she was given the right support. Does anybody have anything???

I LOVED Kerry Butler in LSOH, and she is the nicest person. She is in a new musical (and I completely forgot the name). So she is working, and hopefully she'll get a tony for that role. She is an incredibly talented woman.

I loved her so much in Hairspray and Bat Boy, but in Little Shop, I thought she was extremely weak- not Tony worthy at all.

She's really good.

My opinion (and we all have a right to our own opinions!) is that the people who enjoyed her in Little Shop (including me) liked the fact that she made the role her own. The people who didn't enjoy her were looking for the traditional mimic of Ellen Green.

Kerry Butler is FANTASTIC. She is, probably, my favorite "newer" Broadway star. Her performance in HAIRSPRAY was spot-on... it was a bit of an uproar when she wasn't nominated for the Tony. In LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, she was okay. That's it. Her vocals were phenomenal, as usual, but her acting wasn't anything special. It's only right that she didn't receive a Tony nomination for it.

Now that we've brought Ellen Greene into this...Kerry was a zombie in Little Shop...the only moment she came to life was a single riff in Suddenly, Seymour (which was excellent!)...other than that - blank zombie the whole show. I was a fan of hers before that - but now... There are many women, Im sure, who could have done that role - with comprable vocal talent - and at least put in a little effort into it. What a waste! She does the whole glossy veneer thing fine - but I'm thinking she probably has no guts as an actor...let's look at her roles...Ms Jones, Penny, Shelley, Belle, and Audrey...pretty similiar. Did anyone see her as Belle? How was that? To me, the challenge of Audrey is having that cutsey charming veneer - yet still having the real hurt/pain and need bubbling up under it...so it's not two dimensional. Which she was not very successful at acheiving - unlike Ellen Greene. So in short, I wasn't expecting Ellen Greene - but for the actress to at least do her homework...

What separated her from the others?

I love Kerry Butler. She was perfect as Penny. She was much better than the one in the movie. Her Audrey was really good too. No, she didn't copy Ellen Greene, but she made it her own and I like that. I think she's a really good actress and singer.

i love kerry and she was AMAZING in hairspray, LSOH is a completly different story. i admire her for not going completly in the direction of ellen greene, but audrey is a shallow role to begin with and she didn't help it any. i think she did as best she could in that role, which isnt saying much. she is still extremely talented and i love her. does anyone know what the name of her "new musical" is?

i love kerry! as for her performance in little shop i thought she was phenomenal what a voice...we all know that ellen greene originated the role of audrey and ellen's like a legend i'm sure if they could've cast her they would have but they didn't so get over it please, obviously kerry was in a no win situation and i feel bad for her but you know what no matter who they had cast in the role that person would've gotten completely bashed for not being ellen and that person was unfortunately kerry

I will add to my praise of the fabulous Kerry Butler. I have seen just about everything that she's done. (Including "Campfire Stories" ) I'm a dedicated fan.

She's terrific, actually, and a BIG reason the otherwise very...odd "Opposite of Sex" was as enjoyable as it was.
