re: Kerry Butler in ROA Question

I loved Kerry but she was totally playing Sherry as Kira. It was all Kira-isms. Being a fan of Xanadu, I didn't mind. Also, I think Kerry is 10X better than that dreck show and its 80s porn star costumes. She deserves so much better of show than this. I felt bad for her.

re: Kerry Butler in ROA Question

Having seen almost all the "Sherries" now, I have to say that Amy and Kerry are at the top of my list. Amy totally had that bit of a rock edge and was a bit tougher in a way & I've always loved her voice. Kerry does a fabulous job, and her voice fit the material even better than I imagined. She's not the best dancer, which everyone knows, but I kind love her more spastic style only because she makes it work for her. She's VERY funny with it. Both these ladies had the "star quality" that I just didn't quite get from the others.

I also enjoyed Savannah quite a bit. Like someone else said, she was a bit like "Amy lite" and I don't mean that in any bad way. She did a great job in the role.

Emily was alright, and had some really nice riffs but overall I wasn't blown away like other people have been. She felt almost too sugary and her voice, while strong, seemed a little more 'legit' than 'rock', if that makes sense.
I saw Kelli twice off-bway and enjoyed her enough at the time, but now I really don't remember too much specifically about her performance.
Ericka is probably my least favorite, she was just ok for me, didn't wow me at all or anything.

re: Kerry Butler in ROA Question

I find is completely fascinating how the opinions of the hard core fans who have seen the show upwards of 50 times differs so greatly from the casual viewer.

Amy is last.
Savannah & Kelli are my favorites.
Everyone else is in the middle.

re: Kerry Butler in ROA Question

The opinions are completely all over the map, it's true, but I think that often happens with shows with big fan bases like this. While I haven't seen the show 50 times, I've certainly seen it more than the "casual viewer".

Oh, I wasn't speaking directly at you. Nonetheless, it is completely fascinating.

I'd love to meet someone who think Tom Lenk is better than Wesley Taylor.

re: Kerry Butler in ROA Question

I saw Savannah Wise and Kerry Butler and preferred Kerry. Tom Lenk doesn't even come close to Wesley Taylor!

JP2 -We are all entitled to our opinions... I find it interesting to see others opinions also, not exactly fascinating.. but we all don't have to agree.
To be honest, I did my list on overall factors.
There are some with better vocals, acting ability and dancing.

I don't live near NYC, but still consider myself a 'hardcore' ROA fan. I love the show.

I'll be back in January, but won't get to see Emily as Sherrie unless Kerry is out during the week. I'd like to see her.

I saw Tom Lenk in November. Made me miss Wesley. J Wo did a very nice Franz, too.

re: Kerry Butler in ROA Question

Funny story - this summer I saw a Saturday matinee, with Savannah Wise in for Spanger (during that stretch when Wise was still the understudy but on every show). Right after the show, walking down 8th Ave, a friend I and I were discussing who was better. He was saying Spanger, I was saying Wise.

Well, this girl in front of us, kept looking back at us as we were debating the merits of both. I finally asked her (in a friendly way), if she had an opinion on the matter.

She said, "No, but I'm Kelli Barrett, I played Sherrie Off Broadway"

Shut us up pretty quick.
