As a production just opened in Toronto, I wanted to ask if anyone knows if this play was updated to include Megan Markle, or the author of the review has no idea that this play was written before Markle was on Prince Harry's radar?

I'm not sure which review you saw, but the one I just found says that she's mentioned, but not actually a character in the show.
"Indeed, the present has caught up with its imagined future in one regard – Prince Harry's recent engagement to Meghan Markle – and spoiled one of its major subplots, which portrays the prince as a still hard-partying "singleton." To remedy that, Bartlett has done a hasty rewrite, introduced here, which claims the Harry-Meghan marriage failed and has left the prince single and partying again."

My dream re-write would be to drop the entire Harry subplot and give more space to the William/Kate Macbeth-esque machinations.
I don't see the need for an update - it's a "Shakespearean History Play" and not intended to be historically (or even future prediction) accurate. Will they scrap the play if and when the Queen dies, and the political crisis doesn't happen?
The review I read was the Broadway World review (https://www.broadwayworld.com/toronto/article/BWW-Review-Studio-180s-KING-CHARLES-III-is-an-Underwhelming-Think-Piece-20180217), where it mentioned nothing of a rewrite by the playwright or not. I had no idea that there was some updating. Thanks for the review, ksilver117.
