Just informing, as I've noticed there are fellow Israelis here...

The Light Opera Group Of the Negev (LOGON) is performing Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate this year. The tour starts in March, I believe.

I've got tickets. :)

Sorta. It's an professional-equivalent-amateur group that puts on a musical every year and takes it on the road. I saw Annie Get Your Gun last year and it was fantastic.

Very cool. They do them in English?
That's so cool! Hey,do you know where they sell the soundtracksto Israeli versions of American musicals in America,if at all? I want Les Mis. It'll help me learn Hebrew quicker and I jsut want to hear it. I love to sing in Hebrew!
		     			CAST RECORDING.

There is a Tel Aviv cast recording for Les Miz (and it's fantastic), but it went out of print in 1996 or 1997, so you'll need a LOT of luck finding it.

Thanks. I wonder if my Hebrew teacher has got it somewhere...

A cast recording of Les Mis in Hebrew would be interesting to listen to. Besides the beginning of Yom Kippur services sounding a bit like "Who Am I", I'd be interested to hear how the lyrics are translated. Hebrew seems to be a more multi-syllable language than Hebrew; a line of lyric can fit many more english words than Hebrew. I was trying to translate some song lyrics to hebrew to see if I could do it and it seemed that I had to cut out half of the adjectives.

Ah, sorry. Run-on.

So exactly who here is actually Israeli and living in Israel? My parents are Israeli but I was born in the States and am in L.A. I speak Hebrew though.
I was born in NY and I have no Israeli blood inme. I've been taking Hebrew in High School for 3 years, so I know enough to carry on a small conversation on select topics. I guess I don't know as much as I thought...I'm doing my best!

I would love to have that version of Le Miz. I have Fiddler in hebrew and Kazablan. Anyone else familiar with Kazablan?

The plays are in english with Hebrew translations on top...do I make sense?

I was born in NY, now living in Israel.

I've got Fiddler on CD and Les Mis on tape...and a Dudu Fisher CD where he talks about (and sings) Les Mis and says something about "Who Am I" being sort of like Yom Kippur prayers...

And I love Kazablan!!!

I'm not Israeli, have no Israeli blood whatsoever (however, you might say my ancestors began in the land of Canaan)

However, I had Hebrew for approximately 2 hours every single day of school from Kindergarten til 12th grade.

So even though it's not *perfect*, I speak it fairly well. At least I better -- I teach Hebrew to first and third graders!

I'm Israeli but I spend 4 monthes out of every year in the States because of my job.
8 or so years in hebrew school and the only thing outside of prayers that I can say is fish and water. I would love to hear les mis in hebrew, if I had a bunch of shows in hebrew I would probably be able to carry on a very simple conversation.

Does anyone else get really frustrated when they can read hebrew but they have no idea what they are reading?

I saw this company's version of Carousel in 2000 in Jerusalem and it was pretty darn amatuerish. I saw Joseph in Israel and that was amazing. I think the hebrew translation was even better than the English because it used a lot of play-on-words form the Bible.

		     			broadwaygal3,
Do you know if Kazablan is available on DVD?

I'm sorry, I just got a really weird image in my head:

Im Ata Madlik Et Haner....

Well, I'm going to Israel in March so maybe I'll see it.
