being the first one to play the role does NOT make you the best person to play the role.

I agree with BG2 on this comment.

I really believe that Jennifer Laura Thompson was so much better than Kristin Chenoweth. There are a few more original ideas that Jen has over Kristin, and since I also loved Kristin she had me in stitches. But I laughed a lot more with Jennifer as Glinda than with Cheno. I think it's her voice that puts her over in the performance.

wicked4life51, aren't you the neanderthal that posted the topic a few hours ago asking what actors are gay on broadway? haha.

Anyways. I only saw Cheno. I thought she was fantastic vocally and hysterical in her "book moments." I'd love to see Jennifer though.

"what im trying to day lil miss w/e shouldnt judge kristin by the cd she should judge her by her performance thats all"

That is more understandable.

Usually I always think the originals are the best. In this case I thought both actresses were amazing. They were both great in their own way and in some scenes, better than others. I thought Kristins voice was better, specially in the opening. However, I thought JLT's version of Popular was better. Thats just my opinion however. They both made me crack up. They also both had great magic with Idina in For Good. They made me cry both times. God I love Oz lol....still theres no place like home re: Kristin Chenoweth vs. J. L. Thompson (great movie!) I saw Kristin twice as Galinda this summer and thought she was perfect. I was a fan from the cast recording, so i couldn't really imagine anyone else in the role. I did not feel her acting was lacking at all, but I admit that I am not an expert on these matters...
I am seeing JLT next Tuesday, so I will be able to make an educated opinion.

I simply believed JLT’s performance more when I saw her. They both have amazing voices and wonderful comic timing in their own respects, but I did not feel as though JLT thought she needed to ham everything up for the audiences. When I saw Kristen, I felt like she was pushing every line to be funny, when some of them, in my opinion, would have been stronger if she had not pushed so hard. JLT is my preference, as a person and performer. I do have to say that Kristen was beautiful and a very strong performer as always. Nonetheless JLT is my preferred Glinda...no doubt.

I've been lucky enough to see both of these talented ladies perform the role. I have to admit, I do prefer JLT. Kristin, I think, has a stronger soprano voice, especially with all of those optional notes she hit. However, I feel that JLT's Broadway "belt" was stronger, not as pushed and dare I say "nasal" as KC. I agree, that she did try a little much on some of the comedic moments, really pushing for a laugh rather than just letting the scene take the audience where it would have anyway. I loved how Kristin was more free with her voice, in the "Popular" scene, just singing these huge notes of excitement...JLT is a little more protective of her voice, which is okay too!! re: Kristin Chenoweth vs. J. L. Thompson Enjoyed them both, but liked JLT a bit more.

ive only heard kristin on the recording, i LOVED JLT, but i think that in terms of vocals(which is the only place i will form an opinion) JLT had kristin beat...slightly. I found kristins voice somewhat, well, grating, after the 1st 5 minutes of the 1st song. But thats really it...they were both wonderful

off topic but, who else thinks that they should have put the "its me!!" part of Defying gravity on the recording?

Alright- the only reason I went to see WICKED in the first place was because of Kristin. Idina was out, and at the time I didn't care, because I was there for Kristin- and only Kristin, AND when I heard Kristin was leaving and being replaced by JLT I was not a happy camper. HOWEVER- after seeing both of them JLT is my favorite Glinda. I don't know why, but for some reason she was just more interesting to me. Kristin was hysterical and has a wonderful wonderful voice, but JLT just sort of put more "behind" Glinda I guess. Kristin played Glinda like the girl everyone pretends to like but really despises in high school, and JLT plays her like this popular girl who has something missing that makes her vulnerable in some way. Like in "Thank Goodness" (the opening of act 2), JLT seemed to be more effective when she said things like "there's a kind of a sort of cost", etc. I don't know.... Just my opinion. Idina was just awesome, there's just no other word for her.

I have been a Kristin fan for quite a while...since YAGMCB. BUT I think that JLT does a better Glinda. She pulls off the dumb blonde thing a lot better and she makes so many things hilarious that Kristin was not able to do. I have to say that I am no longer a Wicked OBC snob. I enjoy JLT's version of Glinda much better than Kristin's.

What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

Kristen Chenoweth is really, really good at playing Kristen Chenoweth.

At least I always know what to expect when I see her perform.

Take that as you will.

I'm not surprised that more people like J.L. Thompson over Kristin Chenoweth here.

However, I have to say that I think if Chenoweth gets over her complex that makes her want to prove herself to people and be impressive all the time, then she'd be a much better actress.
