Judy will be starring in the show "Sycamore Trees" by Ricky Ian Gordon, directed by Tina Landau at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA from May 18 to June 20.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.

Excited about this! World premiere in Virginia!
Will definitely watch this in May. I hope this finds its way to Broadway.

Posted: 3/21/10 at 11:56amI'm glad Signature has another world premiere. This series of new works from emerging or lesser known composers is most welcome to me. Farah Alvin is one of my favorites so I am glad she'll be back in DC.

A handful of Broadway stars will be featured in Signature Theatre's spring world-premiere production of Ricky Ian Gordon's musical, Sycamore Trees, Playbill.com has learned.
The new autobiographical family drama by composer-lyricist-librettist Ricky Ian Gordon — known for his opera The Grapes of Wrath and the musicals Dream True and My Life With Albertine — is expected to feature Farah Alvin (Nine, The Look of Love, Pirates!, Kuni-Leml), Marc Kudisch (9 to 5, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Bells Are Ringing), Judy Kuhn (Rags, She Loves Me), Jessica Molaskey (Parade, A Man of No Importance), Matthew Risch (Pal Joey, Legally Blonde), Diane Sutherland (She Loves Me, 1776, Cats) and Tony Yazbeck (Gypsy, A Chorus Line, White Christmas).
Signature has not made an official announcement about casting. Rehearsals begin shortly in New York City before the cast moves to Arlington, VA.
Tina Landau, a frequent collaborator with Gordon, will direct the production, to play May 18-June 13 at The MAX Theatre in Signature's complex in Arlington. Patrick Vacariello is the music director.

Has anyone seen this? It's still in preview but I would love to hear from people who have watched this. This looks very promising and I cant wait to watch it myself. Just wondering if anyone already had opinions about the production and such already.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 4:45amRicky Ian Gordon is a composer who straddles the territory between theatre music and contemporary classical. He's not to everyone's taste but I loved My Life With Albertine.
