I'm sorry to keep asking all these questions, but does the NoHo Arts Center usually put on good productions. Barnum is going there and I would be interested in seeing that.
The resident group at the NoHo Arts Center which is called "Open At the Top Production" puts on pretty good productions. I'm sure they will do a credible job with Barnum...but I would wait and see who's being cast before buying tickets.
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
I really liked the previous two musicals at the NoHo Arts Center (Dorian & The Ghost and Mrs. Muir), both of them directed and co-written by James J. Mellon, the artistic director there. They promise a "different" Barnum than we've seen before. By the way, their fourth production this year is going to be Lizard, the third original musical they've done, with book and score by Scott DeTurk and Mellon, who co-wrote Dorian and TG&MM. In June/July. They've put together a very talented group of actors as the Open at The Top company. Updated On: 1/11/06 at 03:00 AM
I'm going to the opening on Wednesday of "City of Angels". Tonight I'm going to see the opera "The Italian in Algiers" at OCPAC.
As for Barnum- James Mellon will be starring as Barnum. Josh Prince who's a seasoned Broadway performer will be directing. I'm sure it will be an enjoyable and well acted/sung production. Just don't go expecting a big budget production.

I snuck into the Barnum rehearsal just before we did our show on Sunday (right down the block). I heard just a little bit of the chorus and, man, they sound GOOD! It's a very attractive cast, too. James and company always do good work.
What are the good production company's in L.A? I know theatres like the Ahmanson and Reprise put on good productions, but I was wondering what are some of the other great theatres here in L.A.
