I have seen a lot of shows, but I must say tonight's Wicked performance was beyond anything I have ever seen! During the opening scene of NOMTW after Galinda stepped out of the bubble, all was going well. She then made some comment about "Go up, go up" and the bubble started to rise (which I thought was odd because she needed to get back in it. The Ozian then said the line, "Is it true you were her friend?" She was still on the ground and the bubble was in the air. Off stage left, we heard someone (I think it was Boq) say "Stop". Galinda said, "Did they say stop?" Then she asked again, "Is this a stop?" One of the Ozians had a great ad lib and said (while wringing his hands) "I do not know Miss Galinda." Kendra then looked at the audience, giggled, and said, "Hello everbody, I guess we are going to stop now," and she walked offstage. At that moment the curtain came down. Which left everyone in the audience quite stunned.
Finally after a quick annoucement about technical difficulties, the show resumed after 5 minutes-minus the bubble. The bubble never returned the rest of the show.
My favorite part of the night was when Maria (as Elphaba) had her line in the cornfield..."Well, we can't all come and go by bubble.....and apparently NEITHER CAN YOU!" The audience wildly applauded that newly added line. There were quite a few mike problems tonight also.
Oh well, I guess that's what makes live theater so very exciting!
HAHA, technical blunders are always fun.
As long as no one gets HURT of course. At least Kendra wasn't stuck on it or anything :0)
I was wondering if that was why she didn't get back in it. Maybe there were problems with it earlier. I hope the bubble gets fixed before tomorrow!
That is hilarious. I love hearing stories like that. I would have hated being in the audience, unless I had seen the show before.

What the crap! Thank god Kendra didnt get hurt!! How was the rest of the show? That is REALLY funny though!
The rest of the show was ok (definitely not as strong as I've seen). The stop really made it difficult to get back into the magic of the show. After the Wizard and I it seemed to get back on pace. Several of my friends around me thought it was part of the show at first. I had to explain the bubble problem-although I still am not quite sure what went wrong.
Hey DG2- who was your Elphaba, Jenna or Maria? (ignore- I just saw 'Maria' in your post. :))
That bubble thing is the funniest thing ever! I've never been at a show that called a 'stop, *and* the curtain came back down! (I was at the Pantages for Chicago where they had to start the 2pm matinee at 2:35ish because Patti LaBelle's plane was late, that's about all I got.)
How'd the finale look, w/out the bubble I mean- that means Glinda wasn't watching over them all at the end, right? What'd that look like?

"Well, we can't all come and go by bubble.....and apparently NEITHER CAN YOU!"
Hahah that's awesome. Glad Kendra wasn't in the bubble or anything though.
I don't even want to THINK about what could happen if the bubble malfunctions. That baby is WAY up there.
Wow, this doesn't sound too good! I'm sure it was hilarious but when you think about it, it's not cool for them to put people in danger like that. I hope they get it fixed.
I'm also curious how the finale worked out?
BTW the bubble does go up all the way for a big portion of no one mourns the wicked.
Good morning! The finale was different without the bubble-it was always nice to have that bubble scene bookend the show...but not last night. Instead of being in the bubble at the end, Glinda was standing on the stage (down right) looking out at the audience and smiling. She stayed there until the very end and the lights went out.
I was sitting in the second row, center orchestra, on the aisle, so that is why I heard the word stop from offstage. I am guessing they had to somehow get rid of the bubble before the Shiz scene started, but stopping the show altogether was quite a surprise. I too, am very glad Kendra wasn't stuck in the bubble (I adore her) and that nobody got hurt.
One other piece of news (from a cast member who would be "in the know" at the stage door). Eden will be doing several performances as Elphaba next week in preparation for SF. I am not sure which performances or which days, but I am 100% sure my source was accurate.
Geeze, that sucks, I was gonna go see it JUST for Jenna...bust if she isn't gonna be in it then...
At BFO they stopped the show since someone in the audience was having a siezure or something. They (audience member or nearby person) were yelling "Help" "Help". Stephanie Block and Hugh Jackman were on stage at the time. Stephanie just looked, stopped and said - we're going to stop right now, and asked if there was a doctor in the house. They left the stage, and after the audience member was attended to, returned and restarted form where they stopped.
that's friggin amazing haha... i wish i was there to see the bubble fail!
I know this is a bit off-topic and you can totally ignore this post if you want - but I'm wondering any of you feel creative enough to write what you might've improved had you been in Kendra's situation. "Hello, everyone. I guess we're going to stop now" isn't really the most clever way to stop a show. Granted we can't all be improv masters but if you knew in advance something like that would happen, what would you say?

I can't laugh really loud because my mom is sleeping...but the bubble joke was hilarious! Well, hopefully, I won't see a malfunction tonight!
What is amazing to me is the "AWE" that people invest in these rather cheesey effects. "Awe! Look, there is a woman standing in a "bubble" (really just plywood cut in the shape of a bubble with a few lights and a cheap bubble machine attatched) decending from the fly!!! That is sooooooo awesome!!!!" Or, "Awe! Look, there is a woman standing on a forklift being raised up off the floor with a bunch of material and smoke to hide the machinery! That is sooooooo awesome!!!!" Even when these things work the way they are supposed to the effect is cheap and certainly not inovative.
The effect isn't cheap at all.
Oh never mind... can't believe this thread has been bumped! Updated On: 3/18/06 at 01:16 PM
Well I don't know how much they spent on them but they sure look cheap.
it doesnt look cheap at all....
and i dont know what i would have said there..but if i was elphie.. i would have been like "was that the Wizard's idea?.. must have been he ruins everything.."
or something haha... i dont know
LOL :) thanks for playing along orsomething.
" . . . GREAT OZ . . . Someone ALWAYS wants to burst my bubble . . . well let me go put on some more ruffles . . . "
During my first viewing of "Wicked" on Broadway, one of the beds did not make it on stage for 'popular' so Glinda called after it, as if it were a dog, to come out but it didn't move (you could see a part of it on stage and the rest of it was off stage) so the scene was played with just the one bed. The ad-libs for the rest of the scene were very funny indeed.
