Posted: 4/4/07 at 12:38amThere's no way BLONDE will NOT get a best musical nod -- its far too good. I predict the nominees will be: Grey Gardens, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde and EITHER LoveMusik or Curtains. If Love Musik gets strong reviews, then CURTAINS may lose out. If Love Musik is a misfire, CURTAINS is in.

Posted: 4/4/07 at 12:39amI think the nomination for The Wedding Singer was very well deserved, there were a bunch of new musicals that year. And yes, Ashford was robbed indeed. But anyways, that talk is very last year, so, I'll move on.

Becoz...the show that deserves it doesn't always win.
It's the show with the largest touring potential. Most of the TONY voters are out of town producers. And as far as GREY GARDENS, SPRING AWAKENING, LOVEMUSIK and CURTAINS goes...LEGALLY BLONDE has them beat in the touring department.

Well, at this point, my money is still on Lovemusik, simply because of the cast and creative team.
I think though, Curtains, Grey Gardens, and Spring Awakening are locks. The last spot is really between Blonde and Lovemusik.
And Aladdin, Hal Prince is a director. He is a legend who has 20 Tonys. He's not an actor.
Oh, and Ben, how can Curtains NOT be nominated. It is Kander and Ebb's last show, and it did get some favorable reviews. It will be nominated.

I think I Lovemusik gets postive reviews, it will be nominated. and Curtains will win.
CURTAINS doesn't have a shot in hell of winning Best Musical. The only Tony that show has a chance at winning is Best Leading Actor. It will however receive a Best Musical nomination, as a nod to Kander & Ebb.

Posted: 4/4/07 at 12:42amCurtains does not have a lock. Most of the reviews were mixed to negative. David Hyde Pierce will get one, as will Kander and Ebb, but its far from a lock for Best Musical. It's too broad and competitive a season.

What do you think will win if Blonde isn't nominated. I think out of all of them (GG, SA, and Lovemusik) Curtains has the most touring potential. It's an old-fashioned musical comedy. I could see it doing pretty well on the road.

Oh, well it seemed like you meant Hal. Sorry.

There's no way BLONDE will NOT get a best musical nod -- its far too good.
You could have said the same thing about AIDA, but the Nominating Committee specifically snubbed it for Best Musical in a very weak year as a throwback to Disney.
The Nominating Committee knows that LEGALLY BLONDE will win if they nominate it, only because the road voters will choose it to make money, and it is not "the" Best Musical.

Sorry" Lol no...but if Blonde isn't nominated then I would say that Curtains has the best touring potential, but I really do think Blonde has a great shot....and I was thinking of a catch line for Elle Woods at the Tony's " I am so much better..Tan all the other best musical nominees!"

CURTAINS is the only original musical this season. It will be nominated.

Even if LB gets better reveiws than Aida, it still may not be nominated. If the Tony committe realizes that it will win if nominated, they will most likely give the nomination to another show, i.e.
Spring Awakening
Grey Gardens
LoveMusik
Curtains

Good point, but I think it only has to be "so" good for it to edge LB out.

You make a good point, Sueleen. I never though about BOUNCE.
Still, my proverbial money is on Lovemusik until the reviews come out. If they're good, my money will stay there. If it bombs, I'll move my money to Legally Blonde.
"Says the critics who won't give Blonde the completely bashing reviews that Aida got..which I still am shocked about"
And are you sure Blonde won't get trashed by critics? Have you gone forward in time to see the reviews? I'm not saying it should, but it's possible.
#96re: LEGALLY BLONDE first preview
Posted: 4/4/07 at 1:06amPlus the critics don't choose the nominees.

No, but by the looks of it, things seem to be going well for it.....And also have you gone forward in time and seen LoveMusik's review?
#98re: LEGALLY BLONDE first preview
Posted: 4/4/07 at 1:14amFutureAladdin, I thought The Apple Tree was a fabulous show.
#99re: LEGALLY BLONDE first preview
Posted: 4/4/07 at 1:15amNo. I haven't seen Lovemusik's reviews, just as you haven't seen Legally Blonde's reviews. I'm predicting it solely on the cast and creative team and because of them, I think it could get reviews. I'm not saying it will get good reviews, or saying it will get trashed. Just predicting.
