I took these the night they went up - I couldn't resist - sorry they're dark, but this is what it looks like right now:

They have added more to the theatre. They now have like 6 little banners above the overhang going vertically. I think the theatre looks great. It's nice to see that face on Broadway again.
Though it's interesting that there are signs on the theatre that are still announcing it as a limited 6 month engagement.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 12:56pmwhy are they allowed to call it the world's longest running musical? it's such a lie.
re: LES MIZ Marquee is up#30
Posted: 10/5/06 at 1:02pmWell, it's the world's longest CURRENTLY running musical. *shrugs*

I don't think it is a lie. If you looked at all the numbers, I'm sure they're absolutely correct. Cameron Mackintosh would know.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 1:49pmIt is. They just announced it in the West End. This production isn't, but the musical itself is still running. I think it looks great, and it's a bit of a throwback to the 80s to see Phantom and Lez Mis next to each other.

Great to see it!
NOT great to see what the marquee at The Imperial looks like though - yuck! Too bad Les Mis couldn't return there instead! That's where the plaque is on the sidewalk!

Posted: 10/5/06 at 2:05pmDidn't the Fantasticks close and re-open? Is that still part of it's "tally"?
re: LES MIZ Marquee is up#36
Posted: 10/5/06 at 2:10pmno it's not. but the original production still ran from 1960 to 2002 with 17,162 performances. the West End production of Les Miz would almost have to run for another 20 years to reach that number.

Wow...looks great.
I've always loved their advertising campaign.
The original theatre display from when it opened at the Broadway
Theatre was pretty neato.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:04pmI guess I am only amazed, LizzieCurry, because I didn't know exactly how they created the logo from the picture.
re: LES MIZ Marquee is up#40
Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:12pmI am so excited! Now I just need tickets. I got my chorus line tickets last night, so I think I should wait a bit to purchase new tickets, but it won't be a sold out run will it...extending, if it does, and should, I doubt there will be a problem

Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:19pmI bought tickets last week for the end of October, no problem. The guy at the box office said that November was pretty tough.

It's such a lie.
And I intend to do something about it . . .
re: LES MIZ Marquee is up#43
Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:45pmUh oh! Cameron Mackintosh better sleep with one eye open!

It really drives me nuts how they wrote that. I hate when shows advertise by lying about how long they've been running.
But the marquee looks great otherwise.

Longest running implies imperfective action, as in still going.
Right now, Les Mis in the West End (which is more or less this same show) is the longest running show of all the shows running today.
The Fantasticks is the show with the longest run ever.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 5:19pmAnyone know why they chose that drawing of Little Cosette for the logo? It's probably a simple answer, but if there was history behind it I would like to know. Thank you.

Wow, I like the marquee a lot better than I thought I would after reading the (hilarious) "throw up" comment. I think it looks pretty good--nice and bold.
Lord, the shot with Phantom right behind Les Miz brought me back to the long-ago days of my first musical loves...basically I've played right into Cameron Mackintosh's hands. Well played, Mackintosh. Well played.
