Last night when I was in the city I saw the crew already at work putting up the LES MIZ Marquee at the Broadhurst.
Man...I don't even think the seats were cold yet.
Almost everything was up. They have pictures from the touring productions up and "the face" is prominently displayed already.
Didn't have a camera but I just thought people would want to know.

That's the Imperial, Brody.
I'm sure you know that.

Posted: 10/4/06 at 4:56pmWhen I was in choir in highschool, we sang Les Mis. She was obviously on the cover-and none of the dippy people in there knew who she was so we just refered to her as "The Creepy Girl."

Posted: 10/4/06 at 4:59pmIs there something wrong with the way her eyes are drawn? Perhaps its just me, but whenever I look at the logo, it looks like one of eyes is looking forward and the other is looking to her right. Very confusing.

Maybe you guys should dig up the grave of Emile Bayard and let him know what you think! I'm sure that he'd be very interested...especially seeing as he died in 1891

Actually, i'm a big fan of the Les Miz logo. I like the logo more than the show I think.
Actually, i'm a fan of the logos for all 4 musicals from the Brittish invasion of the 80's. Like the shows or not, the Les Miz, Cats, Phantom and Saigon logos were brilliant.

Posted: 10/4/06 at 6:14pmI like the Les Miz logo, especially the colors and I think it does fit the musical. Looking at the drawing it was based on, I am amazed how alike in face they made young Cosette in the logo look from the drawing.

What are you talking about? All they did was redraw it and reduce some of the woodcut grain. Of course it looks alike; if you took tracing paper to a Disney drawing it'd still be Mickey.
(I would've said Photoshop, but this is 1985 we're talking about.)

Posted: 10/4/06 at 8:42pmThe Imperial has such a fancy marquee. Has there ever been a non-attractive looking marquee there?

It looks like Les Mis threw up on the Broadhurst, there's barely an inch that isn't covered on the theatre. Of course, the girl is on the big sign above the theatre.
They've also added signage to the front of the theatre, so it is now similar to the facade of the Ambassador. It's alternating pics of "Les Miz" (spelled like that) and the girl along 5-6 vertical banners. On the corner, they've added a two-story image, and various other images wherever they fit. It also says, along the edge of the marquee, "The World's Longest Running Musical!"
FYI, it also looks like over at the Schoenfeld, they were adding 3-5 ft tall letters sitting above the marquee, in between the two diagonal lit signs, spelling out A CHORUS LINE. I don't know if they light up, but if they do, it would be cool.

Posted: 10/4/06 at 10:39pmI'm slightly amused that they're using old pictures to remind people of what the show used to look and feel, when at the same time they're making sure you know this version is going to look and feel different.
