Do we know when the West End Production will close down yet?

re: La Cage Hits The Road

At the moment it is due to run until next spring which means these will be two separate productions.
Sometime in January is the West End rumor for it to close at The Playhouse.

John Barrowman is gonna do the show no end of good and they plan to keep up with getting names in for the West End run.
I have a horrible feeling they may get a bit gimmicky with the tour casting to get the provincial public in.
The giveaway is that the tour is a new set etc being produced at Bromley for the tours premier there!

re: La Cage Hits The Road

I suspected Barrowman would extend his run to January or February (definitely through Christmas) and the West End production would then go on the road when he finished. But I heard at the weekend that he is finishing in November and going straight into rehearsals for Love Never Dies. I figured he was just doing ALW a favour doing the album and didn't think for a second he'd actually be in the show. But then again, it would make sense as Karimloo leaves Phantom only a couple of weeks before Barrowman is scheduled to leave La Cage. Oh, I don't know.

John Barrowman is doing 'Robin Hood' in Cardiff from November thru February.

Oh my Lord, I completely forgot about panto! That explains his tiny little stint in the show... that'll pack them in for sure. Limited time only and that.

re: La Cage Hits The Road

Thats the first Ive heard of him having anything to do with 'P2'?

re: La Cage Hits The Road

Yeah im pretty sure Barrowman was purely for the album, other actors have been mentioned for Phantom 2, but he hasnt been one of them.

Of course these things change! (although I hope not, really dont want Barrowman in Phantom 2)

re: La Cage Hits The Road

I think he will be steered away from it for his own good if his management have any sense.
He's back in the West End in winter 2010 anyway.
Oops! did i say that?

re: La Cage Hits The Road

I have to say I find it much harder these days to take John Barrowman seriously as a musical theatre actor. He is becoming more and more linked as a camp and loud tv personality, and he is in danger of over exposure (no not in THAT way! lol). And I know that im not alone in that.

As for Phantom 2 I still think this show could well surprise people.

"As for Phantom 2 I still think this show could well surprise people." God, it's worse than we all thought.... If that's possible!

re: La Cage Hits The Road

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about Phantom 2. I still reckon I'll hate it, but I don't think it'll be half as sh*t as I thought it would be.

And Princeton, you are definitely not alone in that. Barrowman really gets on my tits.

re: La Cage Hits The Road

Its a shame with Barrowman as ive liked him since his 'Moviegame' and 'Live & Kicking' days. But his recent transformation into the larger than life tv personality has changed my opinion and he just annoys me and I cant take him seriously anymore.

re: La Cage Hits The Road

He's like a parody of an irritating, smiley all-rounder. Like a male version of Katy Grin from Ab Fab.

He's a prat!
A big headed prat!

re: La Cage Hits The Road

He luuurves himself- I've watched him checking himself out in a mirror!

Maybe he'll join the circus???

re: La Cage Hits The Road

My brother saw him going to see something at Chichester Festival Theatre. He said was walking with his head high and scanning the room 'like a meerkat' and saying a smily hi to anybody who even caught his eye. Some might say that was being polite, but it's not really something you see non-famous people doing, unless they have some kind of learning difficulty. My bro said it was obvious he wanted to be seen and recognised. I can believe it.

He didn't go to Soho gym to work out either!

re: La Cage Hits The Road

This is turning into a bit of a Barrowman hate thread. I'm down with that.

Shall we dredge up the Anything Goes stories...? boy were there some crowded dressing rooms...

re: La Cage Hits The Road

Actually, just one more thing. The fact that he has two accents stopped being a novelty years ago. In virtually every interview, someone will say something like, 'Ooh, but you're not American, are you?' to which he says, 'No, I'm from Glasgow,' in a Glaswegian accent. Cue laughs from middle aged audiences who recognise him from over exposure but don't really know who he is or what he does.

re: La Cage Hits The Road

^ It wouldn't be so bad if his "American" accent wasn't so horrid. I really hope he doesn't use that accent for Albin, that would be awful. Actually I don't care, because I'm not going to see him in this! I wonder how many of the current cast will stay on - their contracts end at the same time as Allam's and Quast's.

And putting all my personal biasses about him aside (that will take a while), he just LOOKS totally wrong for Albin. Too young, too "pretty", too botoxed, too modern.

Why have they cast him? No-one's going to see it before he starts (hence £15 "top price" tickets being available right through the summer) and my guess is no-one will go after he's left.
