I won't either... come September my theatre activities will be taking a very long hiatus. I shall be coming back to BWW for updates though. I was kind of looking forward to the bitching about Barrowman in La Cage.
I may end up seing it as he is friends (kind of) with a friend of mine...but I think (having never seen La Cage)I want to see it with the current cast.
I'm not a fan of Allam, but then again, I saw the press night where even Carrie Dunn noticed he wasn't on form. I must admit I like Norton, but the Douglas Hodge days were a peak it hasn't reached since. I'd be inclined to wait to see who the touring cast are.
Actually, it may be worth popping your head round the door now just to check out a bit of Philip Quast. He's as great in La Cage as he is in everything else he does, but he doesn't seem to have a lot to work with in this cast. I'd rather wait.
I hope to catch this very soon again, very interested in seeing Allam/Quast and also be interested in seeing Barrowman.
On Elaine Paige show this Sunday, they have John Barrowman singing 'I am, who I say I am' about 55 minutes into the show, can be listened to again on BBC I player.
14th September - 28th November. The whole current cast are contracted to 12th September at the moment, so presumably there will be some re-casting of the suppporting roles as well when Barrowman joins.
Oh my Lord, Carrie, that wasn't a dig at you! All I meant was that the rest of your review was so positive, yet you still mentioned that Allam was a bit off. I love your work!!
But how would Martin Shaw feel about playing Albin?
There was an episode of Graham Norton in which Dame Edna appeared. John Barrowman's name was mentioned, Dame Edna said "What possible praise could we heap upon John Barrowman that he hasn't already heaped upon himself?".
Yes I too want the AG dressingroom stories...or at least a strong hint? ( I think I can guess ).
