La Cage - Table Seating?!?!
#1La Cage - Table Seating?!?!
Posted: 3/16/10 at 1:41pmI read in Sean Patrick Doyle's blog that there will be table seating for La Cage. (https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/LA_CAGE_Blog_Sean_Patrick_Doyles_First_Entry_20100315) Does anyone know anything about this? Telecharge didn't know anything when I called them and there's nothing on their sight about it either. I already have my ticket, but would love to sit at the tables (which were down front right by the stage in the set model I saw pics of online). Thanks!!!

Posted: 3/16/10 at 2:20pmThose seats look HORRIBLE! Can you imagine being that close and having to look that far up? I'd be surprised if you could see 5 feet past the edge of the stage.

The stage there is quite low.
I'd be more annoyed being one of the people in a regular seat that is sitting behind them. That must be quite the obstruction.

I sat in the front row of the stalls in London and the tables actually didn't really get in the way (I'm fairly short, too). This is how they looked at the Playhouse:
(the theatre actually wasn't quite as small as it looks there)

I agree.
The set looks different to the one at the Playhouse Theatre, London, it looks less appealing, but I am sure it is going to look different in reality.
The table seating really helps to break down the fourth wall, so a great addition, you guys will love it.

Many theatre-goers enjoy the fourth wall and have no desire to become part of the show. I wouldn't say yet that it's a great addition.

The script includes numerous scenes where Albin and Georges address the audience directly, so it's not really avoidable, is it? Only the people at the tables get "interacted with", you're safe anywhere else.

Posted: 3/16/10 at 4:07pmThe set in London was specifically designed to match the design of the Playhouse - you can see in the picture I posted how the wooden rails in the set match the ones in the auditorium - so I presume the same has been done for the Broadway production, hence the (slightly) different design.

You should have seen it at the Menier....the tables were on the same level as the stage. At one point, a Cagelle leapt onto our table just missing my drink (and me)...a bit before that my head disappeared under a ra ra skirt.
It's all nice and sleazy...

Posted: 3/16/10 at 6:12pmWhen I saw the show in September in London, the ushers were asking people if they wanted to move down front and sit at the tables. The lady asked me, but I stayed in my seat - 8th row center. The Cagelles do dance on the tables, and their is interaction with Georges and Albin.

"Many theatre-goers enjoy the fourth wall and have no desire to become part of the show. I wouldn't say yet that it's a great addition."
They probably shouldn't sit there then. I'd hope that they would have a warning when buying the tickets and before the show about interaction or such as they would do with onstage seating at Xanadu or Spring Awakening. I know they're not onstage, but it seems like a plausible option.

Posted: 3/17/10 at 2:14amWhy aren't these seats for sale?
#17La Cage - Table Seating?!?!
Posted: 3/17/10 at 2:34amThat's all I can think of. Unless they are "sold at box office only" seats.

Makes sense, just would like to, as an out-of-towner that doesn't do rush for shows that are must sees, have the option to buy in advance.

My mum got a great view when we sat at the tables at the Chocolate Factory; RIGHT up a Cagelle's skirt, and nothing else to be seen! Whereas I got a shoulder rub from Philip Quast. We were WELL pleased with the table seating. ^_^

Fanb... there is actually an added joke in the script about sitting so close to see a few "suprises"
I really hope these are in place as it is a brilliant way to break the 4th wall, but in a controlled manor!
