Thanks! I knew it was a cameo role, but when you said combined with Electra that she had a chance for a Tony nomination, I questioned myself. While I hadn't been able to see the Encores production, there's a clip on that site of her performance and it's the best I've ever seen the role performed!

In the Angela Lansbury production, Mary Louise Wilson played both Miss Cratchitt and Tessie Tura. She was excellent in both roles.

I'm very excited for Lenora, I've known her for years and she is a BLAST to work with and to watch. Also excited for Leigh Ann Larkin, another fellow Pittsburgher.

Rumor has it that Lenora WILL be covering Patti, not so sure about if it's true. If it is, I will fly up at a moment's notice to see Lenora play the role. My mother and I have been fans for years and have said she should play Rose in Pittsburgh. I guess Broadway got her first re: Larkin, Fraser, Yazbek, et al., round out GYPSY Cast

I think the only way I'd be excited for Tony as Tulsa would be if he did it shirtless :)

Although it would be a completely different interpretation from LuPone, I'd love to have Maureen Moore understudy her

That would be great.

I'm really glad that most of the cast transferred.

According to a source, that correctly told me of Nemetz's involvement with the production, she will be the understudy for Rose.

I love that woman to *death*!

While I won't be able to see this again, I'm glad Leigh Ann Larkin is playing June again. She was brilliant.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Even if the production is still seeking a standby, there's no reason why Lenora couldn't cover Rose, despite any casting notices. Jana Robbins (Mazeppa in the Daly revival, and the Buckley/ Papermill production) performed both the Mazeppa track/ first cover Rose, appearing numerous times in both productions.

Great news.

i like the idea of Maureen Moore

Judy Kaye might take a standby job is she just left touring, its a decent pay to rest after the tour, and you have to possibility to play Mama Rose on B'way.

Judy Kaye is a Tony Award Winner. I know it would be a job, but Ms. Kaye has gotten this far in her career after winning her Tony Award that she hasn't had to take a job as a standby. I doubt she would do that now.

neddy, Nemetz can't be a standby if she performers another role in the show. If she is indeed the sole cover for Rose, then they just have an understudy.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Just for the record, and this could be a typo, as I don't have a hardcopy playbill of the Tyne Daly revival: Jana Robbins, while full-time Mazeppa, is listed under the "standbys" section on ibdb.com, not "understudies."

Yes

And she too was listed as STANDBY:

Standby: Mary Louise Wilson [Rose]

I posted in another thread about the GG to Gypsy connections:

https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?thread=941249&boardname=bway

I was just doing a little ibdb.com research and came accross the fact that Mary Louise Wilson was the standby to Angela Lansbury in the 1974 revival of GYPSY.

She played Tessie Tura regularly (which coincidentally, Christine Ebersole played in the GYPSY TV movie with Bette Midler).

Maureen Moore (Christine's u/s in GG) played June in the 1974 production and later went on to understudy Bernadette Peters in the Sam Mendes Revival.
