I find it odd that they're closing since I just got an advertisement in the mail yesterday from the Luxor. It seems like their current "big" show. I only wish I could have seen it before...

Posted: 6/6/06 at 5:46pmWhen are people going to realize that Las Vegas isn't Broadway, or anything close to it. When people go to Vegas, they don't plan on seeing a Broadway show. I'd expect Phantom to last only through the summer.

Posted: 6/6/06 at 5:54pmI wish they would have opened it earlier. I was there in December/beggining of January and I really wanted to see it but it didn't open until Febuary. I'm assuming it would have done better in a more busy month and perhaps persuaded the producers to keep it open a tad bit longer.

Posted: 6/6/06 at 6:00pmI personally would never go to Las Vegas during the summer since it gets so hot. However it gets very busy around New Years (when I went), so I wish they would have opened a few months earlier!

Here's how to make Phantom work in Vegas:
- Masquerade will be performed topless.
- The Phantom will be played by Wayne Newton.
- He will saw an audience member in two, following Music of the Night.
- The Corpe de Ballet will give out dollar cocktails and buffalo wings to the audience while they're not on stage.
- Raoul will tame a rare white tiger on the rooftop during All I Ask of You
- The name of the show will be changed to simply: Pà

Can we get back on the subject of Hairspray closing, rather than how much you all hate Las Vegas and its tourists?...
Either way I have yet to see Hairspray live and was looking forward to seeing it in Las Vegas. I guess I'll have to settle for the non-equity tour coming to Kalamazoo in February... I can only pray that it will be the full version and not a 90-min cut down version. If I'm going to settle for a national tour rather than a sit-down production, I better at least get all the material!

Why was Hairspray shortened to 90 minutes?
I was never really sure about that.

I saw it last week. Gr8 show and fabulous cast. The house was far from full which made me think something might be up...
Sad to hear that it's closing because it really was a good production. The cuts actually helped the show move even faster than the Bdwy show.

That's a little weird.
I think they should have done the whole 2 hour show. With an intermission.

Posted: 6/6/06 at 9:05pmThis is a real shame. And the producers should have given these guys more notice. They are being let go almost at the same time as the national touring cast.

I live in Las Vegas. I haven't seen Hairspray, nor did I see Avenue Q, because I have no desire to pay through the nose to see cut-down productions. I don't really have a valid perspective on what people here are interested in, because I go to a performing arts high school where everybody (well, at least the theatre kids) is into the Broadway thing. But yeah, I don't understand the whole Vegas-is-the-new-Broadway idea. So far, the only thing that's stayed open is Mamma Mia (which I haven't seen either, because... well... why?). A jukebox musical.
Honestly, the only shows I see in Vegas are community/college productions, my school's shows and touring shows, because I don't like what they do to the shows. I'll probably see Phantom, just because I would like to see Anthony Crivello (and it's too freaking long anyway). And I want to see Love (Cirque Beatles show) because I'm a huge Beatles fan and a dancer, so the Cirque stuff appeals to me.

It would be nice if Austin Miller got the chance to be the Broadway Link. He's already paid his dues twice.
I doubt Mamma Mia! will close anytime soon. It's so Las Vegas!

Hey Phantom2. Glad to know there are other Austin Miller fans out there. I've seen all the Broadway Link Larkins as well and Austin was the best. He deserves a shot on Broadway.

You need the right hair to be in Hairspray and he's got it. Haha
He'd be a great Sky in Mamma Mia! as well...

He should go to the Broadway show when Link becomes available.
