Last Minute Tickets From Box Office

I work in NYC and am hoping to catch a show, in the next few weeks, for as cheaply as possible. Now, I know about gambling with the lotteries (in terms of if you win and where you sit) and dropping StubHub prices. But, what can I, somewhat, expect if I go to one of the box offices, say, less than an hour before showtime?

Do they usually give you some kind of "deal"? (cheaper price? better location for your money? both?) Or do they, generally, just sell you an available ticket at the usual price?

Any remaining premium seats are released at regular price at some point during the hour prior to the performance. Unsold Handicap seating is released during the last half hour before the performance. This is standard, but the timing will fluctuate based on the number of seats sold for that performance.

As for discounts, it depends on the box office personnel. Some are generous enough to reduce the price, and some won't reduce at all unless you provide a discount code.

It really depends on the show. But a lot of shows do offer rush which is day-of tickets for cheaper (usually anywhere from $30-45) as well as standing room only where (also similar price to rush). Ive almost never bought a ticket in advance and usually stick to rush or standing room. In terms of getting a ticket an hour before the show, its hit or miss with what they have left. Rush tickets are typically sold once the box office opens in the morning and sell until they are sold out of them. Ive seen some shows where there were still rush tickets left by an hour before the show (waitress, and believe it or not Come From Away - though the latter is typically a harder show to get tickets for). For standing room a lot/most shows only sell them once they are sold out for the night. They are also considered day-of shows but often times may be sold closer to show start time. If you dont mind standing this is a great option. Ive seen Hamilton twice by standing for $40 which is a steak considering the prices its still going for these days. Good luck!! Hope you get to see something!

just do it! be open about what you want to see. I often plan to grab a ticket to something an hour before, and they're sold out, so I'll just go check out whats playing next door!

I have not typically got “cheap” seats from going to the box office right before a play (and we do it many times) but you can get great seats this way if you’re willing to pay. Like someone else said, they will charge your regular seat prices for the premium seats that aren’t sold but I haven’t had they discount a center Orch seat as an example. It all depends on the show too. You can also get good seats AND a cheaper tickets by going to the TKTS booth during the last minutes of a show provided you can run to the theatre before curtain. We got 4th row center orch for Addams family (yeah, I know but it was still very full) 15 minutes before curtain

Purchasing from TKTS are NOT cheap.

Stop by the box office anytime day of show. Many shows offer RUSH at 10 AM when the box office opens. Many shows offer cheap seats as regularly priced tickets.

Be open to WHERE you sit. If you dont care about seat selection and want to just SEE it, then youre golden

Ive literally seen every show on broadway (except the Cher show!) , and didnt really ever spend over $40 per ticket.

Also, check their website. Often on the day of the show they premium tickets or single seat tickets get reduced. This will also give you an idea of how many seats are potentially available.
