Posted: 3/8/08 at 8:44pmI must say, she was one of my favorite parts of the train wreck that was Thr'penny

Posted: 3/8/08 at 9:21pmI remember her opening "Broadway's Best" on Bravo back in 2002 dressed as an usherette singing "Give My Regards to Broadway" (I believe) and sounded amazing, and very "period."

Unusual casting, yes, but I am all over it.
She could do Gladys with her hands tied behind her back, but Vera would be a real test of her acting skills.

Remember when Sting did 3 penny
Review/Theater; 'Threepenny Opera,' With Sting
By FRANK RICH
Published: November 6, 1989
After emerging from the inert gray mass that is Broadway's 'Threepenny Opera,' the first thing you want to do - assuming you don't drink - is run home and listen to any available recording of its score. The reason is not to revisit the evening's high points - there are none - but to make sure you are still among the living. How could these scathing songs, forged in the crucible of the century's apocalypse, sound as numbing as they do from the stage? One would have to be lobotomized not to respond to the blasted fusion of jazz, classicism and political rage with which Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht first rocked Berlin in 1928.

Posted: 3/9/08 at 1:25pmSo she gets to sing "Zip" now, I'm sure she'll do a great job with the song. I always liked the idea of the actress playing Melba having her one scene, stealing the show with the song, and leaving the stage, but oh well.

Cyndi auditioned for Mrs. Lovett in the recent revival of Sweeney Todd, but unfortunately it was AFTER Sondheim promised it to Lupone on her birthday after she told him doing the concert was the best night of her professional career.
Just what I've heard, I could be wrong.
Obviously she had to suck up since she couldn't throw up her legs to get cast like she did Gypsy, since Sondheim's a 'mo.

Posted: 3/9/08 at 9:32pmHow I wish Lauper had played Mrs.Lovett, from what I've read Sondheim really liked her but as it has been said, LuPone was a done deal.

I've also heard he wasn't sure if she could sustain 8 shows a week.

Posted: 3/9/08 at 9:52pmDid she miss any performance in THREEPENNY? (I do realize this has nothing to do with Sondheim's doubts since THREEPENNY came after SWEENEY)

Posted: 3/12/08 at 8:33pmThat would be really great if Cyndi Lauper does this show. She could become the toast of Braodway with this part. Let us all hope it all pans out.
