I loved her in Bonnie and Clyde (which I saw in Sarasota as well as Broadway), but my favorite was Laura in South Pacific. I've seen that show a hundred times (well, maybe slight exaggeration) but when she realized that the kids were actually Emile's, she totally made the hair on my arms stand up. That tiny bit of acting was simply chilling.
I guess what you're all saying is that I MUST go see Cinderella after all?

I thought Bonnie and Clyde was a sensational show, and the fact that it closed so abruptly on Broadway was criminal.

Not only were Laura and Jeremy great, so were the actors who played Buck and Blanche.

Rumor had it that Disney paid off the B and C producers to close so Jeremy would be available for Newsies on Broadway.

Liza, really it was no new info re Laura. I have always seen that she will do whatever she believes to be the next right career move at the time. And still, I would be surprised to see her take a play next, while knowing that this is not impossible.

The statement that Disney may have payed off B&C producers to close early is something that I too am curious to hear more about. It's hard to imagine that Frank Wildhorn would go along with this.

Patash, it really is worth seeing her in Cinderella. Like you had that moment in South Pacific (which unfortunately I never got to see), there's one in Cinderella during "Ten Minutes Ago." She really nails the confusion and excitement you would have if your dream suddenly came true, and it managed to sell me (an admitted "love at first sight" nonbeliever) on the romance that the show hinges on. I would highly recommend it, especially if you're already a fan.

If you love Laura Osnes, yes. She is truly giving the performance of a lifetime in this role. Every move she makes, every note she sings, and every skirt twirl she makes is done with sheer grace, beauty, and perfection. I literally could not take my eyes off of her.

Oh man, you SO make me want to see this show!!! Hopefully in the near future....I love Laura, she is so fun to watch on stage. And yes, she is definitely as nice as can be, I can vouch for that one.

nsguy45, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that rumor was true. Bonnie & Clyde was phenomenal in my opinion, and definitely deserved to run more than it did. (Not that I did not love Jeremy Jordan in Newsies as well) The great thing is that it seems both Jeremy and Laura have been in demand since their performances in B & C. Hope to see them both in great shows in the future!

I just found this quote from an interview with Laura in the September issue of Stage Direction:

"I’m very happy doing what I do. My first love is musical theatre, so to jump into another musical or to create another role would be ideal. I love being on Broadway. I’m very fulfilled and satisfied doing this right now. People ask if I want to do TV and film, and I’d definitely welcome the opportunity. I audition for TV and film, and the door just hasn’t opened yet. I feel like the time will come when it’s right. I’d love to do a play and check that off the list. Having done five Broadway musicals now, I think that would be really exciting. Creating another role like I did in Bonnie & Clyde would be ideal because that’s the most fun and exciting thing when doing musical theatre. Revivals are great, but getting to create a role that’s all your own is really special. I’m the only girl who played Bonnie—I got to originate that role. Cinderella was kind of new, given that it had never been done on Broadway. Doing something like Bonnie, especially after Cinderella, would be great—not getting stuck in the good-girl princess image. I can be dark and sexy, too. That’s the joy of being an actress—getting to be versatile and getting to change it up. I get to play different people who are either like me or not like me at all. Even with Bonnie, I was able to find things in her that I could relate to. No matter what, you always find a little bit of yourself in the character that you’re playing."

Guess this must happen a lot, but I would think it would be hard to deal with (poor Harriet Harris)
"What challenges did you face during the developmental period?

I think for me it was learning to master the balance between the contemporary witty new script and the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein score. They’re two different worlds, and that was what the time in the workshops and readings were spent on finessing—nailing it so that they were two completely different worlds blended together as seamlessly as possible. The hardest thing is marrying the contemporary with the classic.

I don’t think I’m really funny, and Doug’s book is so witty. Cinderella is kind of the “straight person,” so that’s fine, but there was a time where other characters were overshadowing her story because they were so funny. Doug loves writing for funny types of characters. For instance, Cinderella’s Stepmother had all these shining moments, and we kind of lost track of the main story. And, you know, it’s the process of trying it before you know that it doesn’t work as well. So, we ended up cutting two songs during previews and continued to finesse Cinderella and The Prince’s story to make sure that that was at the forefront of the storytelling."

In all seriousness I like Laura a lot and I cannot wait to see what she's going to show us next. While I know Smash could have given her national exposure I'm glad she was Cinderella instead. Her time will come for those bigger projects.

You bet, Eris. It was a real treat.

I agree with you re Laura and SMASH, although it would have been a treat to see her work with Jeremy Jordan again. However, I don't think that that show showed off any of their talented cast to their advantage, with the probable exception of Megan Hilty.

Laura does truly shine in Cinderella. I too can't wait to see what she does next.
