2026 Jimmy Awards Discussion Thread

Jun 23, 2026 — 9:29:04 AM

John Adams said: "bwaylvsong1 said: "just the odds of playing a Jimmy-qualifying role in itself are incredibly low!"There's no such thing as a "Jimmy-qualifying role". It's the students' performances that qualify them for one of the various scholarships/awards."Of course it's based on the student performances but the question becomes.....there was no other performance in the state that could be recognized? There's clearly politics at play here. I wonder how many students from low-income schoo...

Great show, as always. So many talented youngsters, excited to see where they all land.I think both winners were the best of the bunch. I wish someone would help with song selection for the finalists because some of these songs are wayyyyy over these high school kids' heads. I think Samia picked the most relatable song for a high schooler, which is why she excelled (and of course had excellent vocals as well). I do find it confusing how students are able to attend the Jimmys multiple times - ...

BLACK SWAN and WONDER world premiere musicals and more set for American Repertory Theatre

I think Wonder, which I thought was a much worse show, would actually be the better transfer. But hell, I hope I'm proven wrong! It's already in solid shape and can only get better with some edits....I'm rooting for it!"It has the very prolific Kevin McCollum as its commercial producer. If he wants to take it to Broadway, he...

BLACK SWAN and WONDER world premiere musicals and more set for American Repertory Theatre

May 27, 2026 — 11:38:19 PM

Caught the second preview and it's quite the experience. The "thriller" aspect is full throttle in the second act with great effects and lighting, all of which were really well done. The music is very Dave Malloy and, for the most part, it works. I think some of the songs could be shuffled around. The book is..............fine. Act one is a slow burn and then act two escalates so fast; they need to bridge the two better.I remember the mother character being more abusive in the movie and I thi...

TITANÍQUE Reviews

Asking genuinely- is the Broadway Journal a reputable source? I've never heard of it. If it is legit, they really need to work on their site. Myspace looked more professional than this.

SUFFS Proshot Airing May 8 on PBS

May 9, 2026 — 10:42:45 AM

Glad I was finally able to see this (I wish we got PBS proshots for every show). I agree with the others - the direction and physical production are not great but the music is strong and the book works in places, and then doesn't in others. No offense to Shaina Taub because I think she has written a great musical but I do wish we would have had another actress for Alice. It's a tricky part and I think the acting could have used a little nuisance. But ultimately, so glad I saw this and I can't...

Stunning album. Journey On is an underrated gem of a musical theater song. Joshua Henry deserves 10 tony awards for this. (Never over losing The Courtship and Atlantic City)

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES To Close January 4, 2026

The show wasn’t great, nor was Redwood, but it still makes me sad that two of our most prominent theater stars took a chance on originating roles in new musicals, only for both to fall flat. It’s hard to blame producers for hesitating to back new work this season.

"I’d be genuinely shocked if both Cynthia and Ariana didn’t score Oscar nominations (I think Ari has a real shot at winning)."I have seen a number of predictors now questioning whether or not they'll even be nominated at this point. Even if Grande makes the Best Supporting Actress lineup, I still have a hard time seeing her win. The Academycanbe pretty snobby towards fantasy characters. It's arguably why Ian McKellen (Fellowship of the Ring) and Angela Bassett (Wakanda Forever) both lost in t...

I think it's great to see "big names" replacing in shows, I wish we saw more of it. (but also Kate Baldwin deserves to be originating roles in new shows all the time. Her voice is gorgeous!)

Whatever happened to Katrina Lenk?

Oct 19, 2025 — 9:35:39 AM

I'm not sure what she's been up to but I agree we need her back on Broadway!I've been meaning to make a message like this about Jessie Mueller.

I say this at least once a week, but I genuinely can't wrap my head around how this woman isn't a household name while the Kardashians are.

What would you love to see adapted as a musical?

Aug 21, 2025 — 9:18:58 PM

I've always said that Ms. Congeniality would be a fun choice. Staying in the Sandra Bullock-world, While You Were Sleeping could make a super cute, small musical. With Sara Bareilles music, of course.
