I recognize the name, but can someone help me with what shows she's been in?
Miss Saigon.
Flower Drum Song.
Singing voice of Jasmine in Aladdin and Mulan in Mulan
Miss Saigon (original Kim)
Les Miserables (replacement Eponine)
Flower Drum Song (revival, Mei Li)
That's all I know of for Broadway, but she's worked the Phillipines and in concert too.
Wow. I guess we all pounced on that one all at once, didn't we? :)
I love her voice! she is also such a nice person. Like, genuinely nice!
She is genuinely very nice and kind - and a talented singer, for sure. I don't think I've ever seen someone put SO much emotion into the songs she sang - especially during a concert!
I love Lea Salonga... she is great & I agree shira, she puts so much emotion into her songs. Honestly, she is the only Eponine on recording I can listen to.

I saw her as Eponine in Les Miserables and Tuptim in The King and I. HEr voice is incredible. It is almost as if the role of Eponine had been written for her.

You can catch her on the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast of LES MISÉRABLES, if you have the video. I do!!
wonderfully talented... she won every possible award for Miss Saigon! And as mentioned before, Wonderful as Eponine, my favorite to be quite honest!

She also sang some Anastasia.((this isn't a Disney movie btw just thuoght I'd mention that)) Once upon a December...just thought I'd put in my two bits.
Wasn't that Liz Callaway (who played Ellen opposite Salonga's Kim in the original Broadway company of Miss Saigon) singing in Anastasia?
Yes, I'm pretty sure Lea didn't sing in Anastasia. It was Liz Callaway. I love Lea's voice; so beautiful.

Liz Callaway for Anastasia.
Lea for Mulan and Aladdin. I remember watching her and Brad Kane on the Oscar broadcast for Aladdin over and over and over until I wore out the tape.
I miss Disney Animated musicals.
I'm pretty sure she didn't either... but I didn't know that it was Ellen, so thanks for the information!!
The Grovers Corners Yenta ,
you are beyond lucky. I would have killed to see Lea as Eponine or Tuptim. Hopefully I get a chance to see her as another amazing role. I knew of her during Flower Drum Song, but I was too young and stupid and I didn't get to see her then either.

I had tickets to see FDS a week after it closed...
I saw Lea in Miss Saigon when I was 9 years old and thats when my love for her started. But I didn't know anything about her then and I am DYING to see her perform live again...

i think it's interesting that in Aladdin 2, Lea does not supply the singing voice of Jhasmine... but rather Liz Callaway does!
Here's a link to her newsgroup. She posts there occasionally.

I don't think Lea has actually played Tuptim onstage. She did record the role about a dozen or so years ago with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra along with Julie Andrews as Anna Leonowens and Ben Kingsley as the King of Siam. Besides, I'm not sure Lea could pull off Tuptim onstage absent transposition of the songs because the role is written for a legit soprano: in the Philips CD, Lea sang Tuptim's songs in lowered keys, e.g., Lea's rendition of My Lord and Master tops out at an F sharp while the onstage tuptim sings up to a high B.
Ah, I absolutely love Lea Salonga! She's my one true love, I must say. I saw her in Miss Saigon after marvelling her voice on the soundtrack for my entire life. She was heartbreaking. She's my favorite Eponine as well. Ah! She's done so much more in the Philippines, like I know she's played the Witch in Into the Woods, she's also done They're Playing Our Song, Grease, Annie, and Proof among many many others. If ever there were a Filipino Idol, she would be it. I don't know of a Filipino who doesn't know her, she's like our national hero, haha. Hooray!

Just don't cross her on her newsgroup...
She did a production of BABY recently in Manila, and there's a 3-song cd available, with The Story Goes On.
She doesn't quite have the belt to pull of the end of the song, but it's still beautiful.
I read an interview in which she said she's working on her belt, because she's interested in playing Elphaba on B'way.
