I know talk about Lea playing Elphaba has been mentioned on this board before. I have been waiting for the release of Jennifer Paz's CD for a while now since I knew there would be a duet with Lea Salonga singing "For Good" from Wicked. The CD has finally been released and wow, it sounds great (a different sounding Elphaba for sure)! There is a small clip of the song on Jennifer Paz's website. http://www.jenniferpaz.org/music.php It is number 7.
oh man... i would kill to see Lea Salonga play Elphaba

it sounds really good though.
Lea said at one of her recent concerts that Elphaba was one of her "dream roles", as was Sara Ramirez's part in Spamalot.
Zoneface?
Why would Lea never do it...She has definitely said she was interested in playing Elphaba and Kate Monster. You don't think producers might eventually take her up on the offer?
Akiva
IM suprised WIcked let them record that
It sounds lovely... Jennifer Paz sounds wonderful too, I saw her in FLOWER DRUM SONG (in Los Angeles) right after Lea left. Their voices have good blend together.

Zoneface,
Lea wants to play the role and has been working on her voice for the role. She has posted this on her newsgroup. The real question is if she would ever get the part.
That would be interesting to see. I adore Lea Salonga. Im curious how strong her voice would carry in Defying Gravity because I dont think Ive ever heard her belt that strongly.
Wow, that's great.
I think she could do it.

I would die to see Lea Salonga as Elphaba! I have also read the article mouseinfo is talking about... she is interested in playing Elphaba, and I hope they ask her eventually! It would be interesting to hear the differences and similarities to those who have played Elphaba too.

OH MY GOD! I soooo didn't know she was interested in playing this role, I thought she was more attracted to other kind of roles. Can she belt a song like "Defying Gravity"? Even if she can't, she's sooo hard-working that she'd train enough to do it. She's said before that she wants to be considered a dramatic performer and not only a singer, this role definitely needs a good actress and I'm sure she could do it. I'd definitely pay to see her instead of Shoshana or Saycon. Also, is she really interested in playing Kate Monster? My image of Lea Salonga is not one of an actress who curses, lol, just because I still think of her as Kim and Eponine. Ohhh, now I want to hear Ruthie Henshall doing Wicked too!
I like this rendition. But wow, howcome I've never heard of Jennifer Paz before?! I now have to buy the cd.

Jennifer Paz is amazing. I have seen her a few times. She just weapped up playing Kim in Miss Saigon here in San Diego. She has been doing that show on and off forever. She also played along side Lea in Flower Drum Song in the LA run. Such an amazing talent. She gave up her equity card to tour with Miss Saigon. There is just not enough work out there for Asian performers.
I saw Paz in both the Saigon tour and Flower Drum Song, she's pretty good.
But of course, I have special place in my heart for Lea ;0)
I thought Paz was fantastic in the Saigon tour.
It sounds so pretty. Very different from the usual voices we hear singing Elphaba and frankly, I'd love to see Lea play the role. Probably unrealistic but should it ever happen I'd be very happy.

i like the new beat and sound. I think she could pull it out, but I'm not sure she'd be right for it now. Maybe as a first replacement, but now that Wickeds been going on for so long, I don't see her just being a replacement. Although, now with the new Tony category, maybe she would do it.
Jennifer Paz is like Lea Salonga II. She looks like her, sounds like her, has taken over a bunch of roles from her. I'm gonna go listen to For Good between the two of them because I think it will be funny to hear two people who sound so much alike singing together. I saw Jennifer do the "West Coast Premiere" of Songs For a New World. She was very good.
Actually, you could totally tell them apart. I take that part back. Jennifer's voice is higher and lighter in tone.
