I didn't like the change in tempo but I think they both do a beautiful job in that song. I would definitely love to see Lea as Elphaba.

I like the belnding of their voices but the tempo was a bit too fast for me.
IM suprised WIcked let them record that
Why? They let Leslie Henstock record Defying Gravity. (And I think she was the first.)
Leslie's wonderful CD
I would actually like to see Lea tackle Glinda instead of Elphaba. I wouldn't want Lea to wreck her voice in that role anyway. Besides, Lea has a beautiful lyric soprano. It hasn't been put to full use in MISS SAIGON, LES MIZ or FLOWER DRUM SONG, but she has it and it suits Glinda.
I can't listen to the song right now to see what all is included, but the end has a nice reprise of "just you and I, defying gravity, they'll never bring us down" to end the song. It's really great. My friend RJ did the arrangements for the CD and he did a great job!
GALINDA or ELPHABA, it doesn't matter, as long as its LEA!
What a perfect idea this is! If this so is true, I'd see WICKED every gala ang every matinee until Lea leaves, promise!
Hahahaha!
Lea Salonga is one of the very few things that would make me interested in seeing Wicked again.
True that, Patronus :0)
I LOVE LEA!!!

I think Lea would be great in WICKED...She was fierce in LES MIZ!
I love their version of it, its fantastic!
I personally don't like that version of the song. Too upbeat for the material, to much drums. Yuck.
As for Lea as Elphaba, I don't like that idea either. Her voice isn't dark enough. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Lea, but I don't think she'd make a good Elphaba. Unless somehow she can change the color of her voice. Is that possible?
the color of her voice maybe different than most the people that have played elphaba but who says elphaba has to sound a certain way. maybe a different voice style will spice the role up some.. i'd like to see lea play elphaba as for her playing glinda i'm sure she would sound amazing but i can't picture her in a blonde wig..lol

I think she can easily pull this role off. That girl can belt and I just love her. I think she would make a great Elphaba and Lady of the Lake. But I say that Disney needs to bring Mulan to the stage and let her be Mulan!
Lea would be a great Elphaba.
As for the "color" of her voice, if you listen to her in Miss Saigon, she actually gets pretty dark in some places. I think she'd be more than capable of doing the role.
I'd like to see Lea in these shows: Wicked, Phantom, Jesus Christ Superstar, Beauty and the Beast, Annie, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Camelot, Into the Woods.
why does everyone thinks that she's just a sweet pretty voice... of course she's gonna be an interesting Elphaba.
I've just never heard her sing very "dark" before. If there were any time for her to do so, it would be in this duet, but I didn't hear it. I'm not saying it impossible, just that I've never heard her sing darkly before.

why would she sing dark in this song? It's on an album... some people might never have heard of Wicked (beleive it or not it's true!) and think she was some randomer singing oddly!
Lea would be auperb as Elphie! Would be different granted... but she's superb, perfection! I reckon she'd shock a lot of people, and as for dark... listen to Saigon, she get's scary in some bits!

Wow! I can't wait to hear reviews on that. I am going to her October 23rd concert in Cerritos. Hopefully, she will take a crack at Defying Gravity there.

ooh... Lea in Into the Woods... her witch is very sinister to me... very evil sounding... she owns all those sings... especially her song to Rapunzel in Act I... i forgot the name.. but she's awesome
Patronus, so Norbie is a braves fan huh?
Love the hat.
Yep, I can't bring myself to change the avatar even though I love change - so I have decided to dress NorbertEmcee up in all sorts of things specific to the season.
Since the playoffs are starting, I figured I'd give him a Braves cap.
Eatlasagna, have you actually seen or heard Lea's Witch in Into the Woods? There isn't a recording, is there?
I'm pretty convinced that Lea would be perfect in any role in any show. If she were chorus member #17, she'd steal the show and probably win a Tony for it.

i LOVE lea salonga. i'm filipno, so i've grown up listening to her CDs (tagalog and english) all over the house. she is AMAZING, and her voice is SO BEAUTIFUL. she is my role model, and i hope to be like her someday.
anyways, i still haven't seen wicked. but, if lea stars as elphaba, i swear i'll buy tickets right away.
i mean, i know what u guys are saying, about the color of her voice. she can belt, but not in the same way that idina can. but, to tell u all the truth, if i were to read about the character of elphaba before i heard any of the songs, i definately would not have imagined her to have a strong voice, like idina, saycone, and shoshana do. i'd imagine her to have a lighter, nicer voice. but, that's just me. :)
btw, is it defiante-lea singing defying gravity at the concert!?
