"The biography focuses on the earlier years of Streisand's career, beginning in 1960 when she arrived in New York City as an Unknown 17-year-old."
She grew up in Brooklyn. Don't make it sound like she stepped off a Greyhound Bus from Iowa. Barbra hopped a subway and was in the city in 20 minutes.

Okay few more questions:
1. Who would you like to see as Fanny Brice if there was a revival coming up?
2.What role would you say is harder, Evita or fanny?
3. Why is everyone against Lea playing Fanny? Personality aside I think she definitely has the talent and look for it.
K thanks.

I'm more interested in who will play Lainie Kazan, the girl who stood in the wings just hoping that Barbra would get a sore throat or break her Carol-Haney-Loving Leg. Poor Lainie couldn't get a Stritch deal and do two shows at once. No, I want to see the Lainie Kazan Story.

Certainly, a true, indie/commercial treatment of Barbra's early years, the Brooklyn/Greenwich/Broadway Village triad, the time period....it could be really interesting if handled correctly and with intelligence.
Unless John Waters is directing, I'm not interested.
Guy, aside from Lea, I think Lady Gaga would be interesting. And I know she may be a bit too old for the role now, but I would've loved to have seen Linda Eder as Fanny, she certainly has the voice for it.

all that jazz, the show is called **FUNNY** GIRL, Linda Eder couldn't project an ounce of humor (in terms of her acting) if her life depended on it. The show is not just about having someone who can belt, people seem to forget that Barbra was actually funny, in fact, hilarious if her performance on stage was anything like her performance in the film. Fanny has to pull off "People" and "Don't Rain on My Parade" but she also needs to pull off "His Love Makes Me Beautiful" and "Sadie, Sadie." I wonder if Donna Murphy ever played the role in summer stock, she's the only actress of her generation whom I believe could have pulled off all aspects of the role. Really, I'm still upset Lauren Ambrose didn't happen, I thought casting her was a stroke of genius that would've avoided any immediate comparisons to Streisand. Perhaps the best way to think about this show today is how Seth Rudnetsky conceived it in 2002, as a concert with all the great actresses getting a crack at one song, it requires that much range to pull the role off.
Linda Eder as Fanny Brice.
EL OH EL
Ray, I was just thinking about how thrilling it would've been to listen to Linda sing the score, but you're right, I'm not sure she has the comedic talent for it.
Jazz...love your new avatar.
Can't Lea Michele start dancing for nickels on subway platforms already? I'm so sick of her having a career, let alone trying to become the next Streisand.
No, she is talented. Her ego has just gotten so out of control - particularly in regards to her connections with Babs - that I really don't think this biopic is the best thing for her.
WHAT connections with Babs? Didn't Streisand call her voice "pleasant" or something, and that's about it?
She really hasn't got much talent, or if she has, I haven't seen it. What I have seen is unrestrained hamminess and overacting, and a helluva lot of ego.
"DAME Lea?"
Oy, is that how low the title of Dame has sunk?

I am a bit confused, why does everyone think Lea has an obsession with Barbra? Are we forgetting that Lea plays a CHARACTER that is obsessed with Barbra. Its not like Lea writes the script or anything. I am fairly certain it was the writers idea to have her character be obsessed with Babs, not lea's idea.
Also I really don't think we should judge Lea for wanting the Funny Girl part. What Musical theatre actress doesn't want that part? If i was as talented as a Broadway actress would I want to play the role of EVITA? Certainly, but that doesn't mean i want to be Patti Lupone, (I just want bits of her hair
).
^ THAT's who should be Miss Hannigan in the Annie film!
^ THANK YOU! I've said it before in other threads, she'd be sensational.

Lupone would be great but i doubt she ever do it.
I’m not sure if I get the Lea Michelle hate as well..
I get the part that she’s a pain in the ass and difficult to work with in the extreme, however. She can sing, she can act and she can dance – all extremely well. She’s obviously very gifted –.....she’s not a Paris Hilton or a Kim Kardashian.
Evita is a hard role for any actress. However Evita gets moments where she is off stage, moments where other people sing with her, she gets some down time.
Again, the character of Fanny Brice is NEVER off stage for more than 7 minutes, in total, in a two and a half hour show. She is almost always singing and except for two songs…..singing completely alone..
Think of it…90% of an entire score (a gorgeous but grueling score)sung by one person.
I don't hate Lea Michelle. I'm not even familiar with her work. My comment comes from believing the title of DAME is reserved for the likes of Judy Dench.
Oh the dame thing is not serious, Jane. It was something I posted once on the unpopular opinions thread on a day were many posters were trashing her, and since I sometimes refer to her that way. I don't actually think she should be one.
But it's still offensive to real women who have earned that title, since Lea Michele is a vile, disgusting and heinous example of a human being.
OK Jordan, spill...You sound like you have good dirt...
