Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:19pmDon't forget Raul Esparza for CHITTY. Are Pierce and Azaria DEFINITELY leading actor or supporting? Let's not forget Dennis O'Hare for CHAIRTY or if anyone is elegible from PIAZZA. It's too early to do this.

I agree it's too early. Both Denis O'Hare and all of the actors in Piazza are brilliant...
But I'm being stubborn. I refuse to root for anyone but Mr. Butz.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:22pmCurry and Butz are more than likely going to be nominated. Other than that, I have no clue - mukustrap's right, it's a bit early to tell.

ARe you sure about that? No rulings have been made by the committe. I don't think Daniel Davis will get a nomination - he surely doesn't deserve one.
norbert will win.
#10re: Lead Actor in a Musical....
Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:23pmHe'd better friggin' win.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:29pmIf he doesn't win, it's going to be Urinetown vs. Millie defeat all over again in my world. Devastation. He soooooooooo deserves a Tony!!!

Bad analogy. Millie deserved its Best Musical Tony. Yes, Urinetown was different and un-conventional, but honestly, Millie was a more solid show.
Hope Norbert wins the Tony, but Curry is quite hilarious. Its a toss up.

Haha...um...no, it's more like the THE PRODUCERS stealing everything from the much better FULL MONTY.
MILLIE was not a more solid show - it was very crappy. I thought it was awful. In FORBIDDEN BROADWAY they refer to it as the worst best musical ever.
Norbet deserves to win. If he doesn't, it will just be a repeat of the last 2 years, and I won't be surprised.

The Full Monty > The Producers
Urinetown > Millie
In my opinion.

I strongly disagee, Munk.
Although Millie was not a ground-breaking show (other than its solid solid solid performers: Foster, Creel, & Harris), the show flowed. Urinetown, a very funny and somewhat clever musical had some very weak points in the book and direction.
Millie deserved its Tony. Urinetown was in a close second.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:47pmURINETOWN had a weak director and book? It won Tony's for those two. Tony's don't mean anything, but I thought they were very strong. MILLIE was just awful.

My guess is that the noms will go to:
Curry
Esparza
Davis
Pierce

Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:51pmGotham, you clearly haven't seen DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS. Norbert will be nominated and win.
#19re: Lead Actor in a Musical....
Posted: 2/28/05 at 6:53pmThe book for Urinetown is witty, hilarious, and sharp. It certainly deserved its Tony. Updated On: 2/28/05 at 06:53 PM

Posted: 2/28/05 at 7:04pmI AGREE that the book is "witty & hilarious" not "sharp". Although it is very humorous, it has lapses of clarity. And the direction, although good, was misplaced at times to fix its holes.

I haven't seen anything yet but I get to NYC in 12 days and will see DRS and Spamalot for sure...the other ones aren't leading men material but from what I've heard Tim Curry and Norbert for sure then Possibly David Hyde Pierce. We've still got Piazza and Sweet Charity to open and Chitty Chitty w/ Raul...it'll be a good race this year for lead actors.
Any ideas on Women Lead nods? I say Sutton and Christina Applegate and hope to see Sutton win but big names get a lot of recognition so who knows...
