BrodyFosse: thanks for the memories and the clips of THE FAN, which I saw in a mall, next to an auditorium showing Friday the 13th Part II. It seems Paramount released both of these films the same day. Hmmm.
No one can get near those notes like Ms. Bacall.
Seriously, I do recommend the book on which this film is based. It's by Bob Randall, and it will stay with you far longer than the movie does (well, in a different way, admittedly). It's a pity the filmmakers did not have the cajones to stick to the novel, but in retrospect (especially now), you can see why they chickened out.
