It would be very interesting if they end up doing a cast recording with Lea Michelle.

The production is saved!
No more crappy book! No more shoddy production values! No more boring filler songs! The leading man is now dynamic and interesting!

It's Michele..FWIW
I'll be there with a bottle of wine.
After so enjoying the woman she's become in the Spring Awakening reunion documentary, I am so ready to feel great about LM again. You go girl!

Same. As I’ve stated before, the climate today regarding toxic behavior has forced her to have some self-awareness on herself, especially when former colleagues openly exposed her toxic work ethics, so I fully support her resuming her career. Hopefully the Universe has it that not only would doing FUNNY GIRL on Broadway be a dream coming true for her but it could be the career relaunching for her. I’m Team Lea. We all deserve a second chance. God knows many of us have had several in our lifetime.
She's a 35-year-old wife and mother now. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she's grown up a lot since her Glee days.
Re: Michele being too "pretty" for the role. Barbra Streisand did sort of single-handedly re-conceptualize how people thought of beauty in the 60s and 70s, right? In terms of the stereotypical Jewish physical characteristics she brought to the table when she was becoming the zeitgeist back in the early 60s. I don't think anyone on this board would say Barbra was ugly or anything during Funny Girl, but it's well-reported that she had serious doubts about her beauty that Sydney Chaplin was only so happy to use against her when his role got cut to shreds. I don't think Lea Michele is dead ringer for Barbra to anything, but they look more alike than different. So I don't think the physical aspects will be that much of a deterrent (not to mention the amount of episodes on Glee that centered around Rachel needing to change some physical aspect of herself to be "hot". Just wanted to flag that Barbra herself might be a reason we think of Michele as pretty today!

Because this is a message board and we're allowed to do such things? WILD I know. The good (great?) news for you is that don't ever have to participate!
OP, her name is Lea. Seriously, it's in the article you posted yourself. No excuse.
Lea is not at all conventionally pretty. She is perfect for the role and will look great in the wardrobe.

I would hope they would do some wardrobe changes and improvements. Has a designer ever been replaced once the show is running? The costumes for FB in this show are horrid.
I don't know anything about costume design but I thought Julie looked beautiful in the red dress. Perhaps they will make some improvements for Lea though. What do you think (style, fabric) they should have done to make them look amazing?

The red dress might be the exception. Everything else looks like potato sacks.
Also, Lea would be wearing the period-authentic wig and not that 60s Streisand pageboy wig she wore on GLEE. The authentic period costume design and wigs in this revival will completely disassociate her from what was done on GLEE. And it’s happened countless times when a show’s costume designer redid the costumes for a cast replacement so there’s no need to fire and replace anyone.

I am so confused. Which OFFICIAL source has confirmed this? Playbill, the show itself…rumors from “sources”? Eh. I’m not jumping to see Lea yet. Nothing is official.

It still just a rumor - even many of my colleagues are saying they heard Lea Michele is going to be in Funny Girl lol and most don't see shows on Broadway stating once they lift the mask ban may see something.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of this. #TeamLea
I've heard from two legitimate personal sources within the industry that negotiations are or did happen. Whether or not an agreement is reached, however...

The only source I trust is the Animatronic Patti. Has it been yell-confirmed?

They’re modifying the hair and make-up on it. LuPone rejected the last 4 so they’re redoing it a 5th time so it’s at the shop right now.

Stop trying to make "Animatronic Patti" happen, Gretchen. "Animatronic Patti" is NOT a thing!

MY agent friend says that YOUR "agent friend" is a drunk and a liar.
Lea Michele could not get me to sit through Funny Girl again, but, a true Broadway star like Jesse Mueller might have.
