So despite being completely besotted with the works of sondheim, their are things about some Sondheim works i dont like. What Sondheim musical or song really annoys you, or you plain just don't like?
For me, not that its a bad song, Send in the Clowns just annoys me to tears...
(and it pains me so to say there is something sondheim-esque that i dont like)
Interesting about Send in the Clowns... I love that song very much.
I often skip Judge Turpin's 'Johanna' when I am listening to Sweeney Todd. It's just too creepy to listen to.
I love Turpin's Johanna! So poignant and disturbing and wonderful at the same time.
I don't like Passion very much. Maybe I just haven't connected with it. I end up turning it off usually.

I have a tendancy to skip some vital Sondheim songs, like No Place Like London, Johanna in Act II, Sorry-Grateful, and many from my least favorite show, Into the Woods. It's not to say that the songs are great, they just don't interest me.
COMPANY. So full of songs that make me want to repeatedly bang my head against the wall.
But I thought you loved Barcelona, Rath.
Now you're angry.
I think Barcelona is very poignant....love it. Jane Krakowski is very funny in the revival doing it....I can't understand how someone could not enjoy PASSION but hey, to each his own....I'm trying to think which one I don't like...Broadway Baby has kinda lost its touch for me....I can live without many of the things in Follies...I don't know...there's not much of his I don't enjoy.

I really tried to like Sunday in the Park with George, but I just don't care for it. I like some of the songs--"Color and Light," and especially "Finishing the Hat," but the show just doesn't work for me. However, dislike Passion even more. It's just plain boring.
Sondheim still is my favorite composer though!
PAssion.....cannot get into it no matter how hard I try!
I cannot think of one Sondheim song or show that rubs me the wrong way.
Judge Turpin's Johanna. Just disturbs me every time I hear it. I love however Anthony's Johanna and Sweeney's Johanna. I like JOhanna singing "I'll marry Anthony Sunday" and "I knoew you'd come for me one day...come for me one day." repetedly in Anthony's ear. So wonderful.
COMPANY.
I think I'm the only person on this entire board who likes Company.

Uh, not quite. Company is one of my three or four favorite Sondheim scores and I'm sure Stick to Priest and a few others here would say the same thing..
And the cast album is my all-time favorite cast album.

I suppose I would be one of those "others", Margo.
I also can't think of a Sondheim show that I don't like.
Which reminds me; I have Into the Woods rehearsal in an hour. :)
evening primrose- it's beautiful just not (in my humble opinion) up to Sondheim snuff...

What role are you playing Gov?
(and warn somebody next time you're transforming from a little baby peapod to a half naked Emcee in the blink of an eye, will ya?)
There is only one thing that relly irks me in Sondheim's body of work, and I have stated it many times before.
That would be Bobby singing 'Being Alive' at the end of COMPANY.
It is a beautiful song with poignant lyrics, however it is extremely untrue to character.
Sondheim has described it as his 'cop-out' ending, because Hal Prince wanted a happier ending than the cynical 'Happily Ever After' that 'Being Alive' replaced.
Othert than that the show, along with all of his other shows, is a masterpiece.
I know it is not the title of the song, but the 5 BILLION "Bobby Baby" segments irritates me to no end. I don't like to listen to the recording of PASSION but when I watch the DVD, I love it.
