Every other performer on Broadway is playing a role 8 times a week (with two exceptions) and they don't sound tired.

^ SO NOT TRUE.
When I saw Wicked on a Sunday Idina's voice and Jennifer's voice sounded tired. I am sure there are many performers right now thats voices are tired by the end of the 8 show week...i think to make that statement is a tad redic.

True Neddy but come on, Laura barely even leaves the stage in the show. Also, this video was taken while they were in previews, while the cast is having rehearsals and then doing the show at night. Plenty of performers voices are tired at the end of the week.

Posted: 4/28/07 at 10:06pmWith the adorable LBB in the role they had me at "play" but the final result looks especially good (and I'm sure she's usually on pitch and time" give her a break, it's the end of a first act where she's onstage almost all the time. I will definately try to get across country to see this one.

As a West End singer i would say she sounded a little strained in parts but the girl is on stage nearly all the way through the show so if thats the worst she can sound(and after seeing San Francisco and broadway productions i would say it is) then she has nothing to worry about.
I do love the act 1 closer but you have to see the build up to that song to get the full impact(and the tune is so bloody catchy).

I loved her in this but i do see what your saying, she seems to have Elle down to T yet sometimes shes just lacking a little something.
The productions i have seen though (dont start haha) have seen her go from very good but slightly lacking some magic to Fantastic where she nails it.

Her pitch was better when I saw it Friday night.
I don't think she was cold, just maybe not as warm as she really should be as Elle. She's always running around and changing costumes all the time, she never has the chance to have a good book scene to slow down and actually seem like a real person. If that makes any sense.
The staging for the bows is different from how it was in San Fransisco. Notebly, Kate Shindle ended up further back so when they're singing Legally Blonde I was like, "where is the belting coming from?"
She's almost hidden back where they have her now...

Posted: 4/29/07 at 2:32pmLBB doesn't have the star quality required for Elle. It could be her fault, it could be Mitchell's fault for sending her to the back of the line in all the "big" numbers.

I meant Kate Shindle being in the backgroud during the sort of reprise of Legally Blonde (Remix) at the curtain call.
I'm not sure if it's star power Laura Bell Bundy is missing. I feel like she could get there maybe (with different direction). If the show sticks around long enough for a replacment Elle (or maybe if there's a good understudy) who can make the role really shine then I can stop blameing the direction.

I think Bundy can (and will) get to where she needs to be in time. My problem with her at this point is that she comes across a bit more brazen than bubbly (which I think is probably an intentional choice to seperate herself from Witherspoon.)
If she ups the energy and makes it "bigger" I see her improving vastly (though she's at a good place right now.)

Posted: 4/30/07 at 9:41am"Makes it bigger?" - the one thing this clip had was tremendous energy, if no subtlety, and it seemed to me that LBB was putting everything she had into this performance. I couldn't understand about half the lyrics and the ones that I did hear varied from mildly funny to incredibly painful (the "orgasm" routine). I can see this being very popular, easy to digest and totally not my thing. I thought her voice sounded very strained. I didn't detect any pitch problems, although I don't have anything to compare it to and don't know the music.

Lots of changes to that song between when I saw it in San Francisco and that clip on People.com -- lots of small lyric changes, but quite a lot cut from the overall time of the song.
I like it better now -- a bit more focused.
