I know some shows make some minor changes on tour, anyone know if they changed anything for Legally Blonde on tour?
They changed many of the sets. Omigod you guys is completely different. There is no house in the beginning and the girls are like running all over the stage screaming. Liked the Broadway version "so much better"(sorry had to say it).
There's TONS of threads on this, but I'll do a little run-down: The majority of changes are scenic tweaks, and a few lyrics changes. The only MAJOR changes that I can remember was the opening (Omigod you Guys - scenic purposes) and the song Legally Blonde.
I will say that the trap door is missed, especially for certain entrances! Oh well, still looks fine if you aren't dead set on any of the above.
Well off the top of my head, these are the changes I remember:
1. There is no big sorority house at the beginning of the show. The show opens with the girls already inside the Delta Nu house singing "Ohmigod."
2. There is no big staircase.
3. There are some lyric changes between Elle and Emmett in "Legally Blonde." The song takes place in the court room instead of in Callahan's office/Elle's dorm.
4. There is a lyric change in "Positive" as well.

ah that sucks. i liked the house in the opening. it'll be strange to just see them running all over the place.
What would be the reason to change lyrics in a show for the tour? I was just curious.
The lyrics in "Positive" were changed because they referenced the size difference between LBB and Kate Shindle (fighting is never wise...anyways she's twice my size) and on tour Vivienne is the same size as Elle.
I believe "Legally Blonde" lyrics were changed because of the change in setting (Elle's room vs. courtroom)
On top of what TryKenyon said, they also changed the one line in Omigod You Guys where the "girl" usually slides down the banister, and a few little other tidbits which you probably wouldn't pick it up on unless you knew it really well.
I had the opportunity to see Legally Blonde when it came to Chicago and I have to say, despite the changes it was fabulous! After seeing the show on MTV I was expecting to see basically the same show. Unfortunately many things were changed, but in the end it still is a great show with a wonderful cast. The changes that I can remember (sorry if some were already mentioned)
- The opening is very different. Delta Nu house has been reduced to a large pink doorway downstage right, a table center stage, and a "Congrats Elle" banner which is flown in.
- There are 4 large columns that are used for many different scenes throughout the show. They end up replacing a lot of unnecessariy set pieces (ie, harvard windows, classroom bookshelfs etc..)
- The lighted border around the proscenium moves up and down and side to side to frame the different scenes, and also to reduce pointless set pieces (large window panes that were flown in for Callaghans classroom on broadway)
- Generally all of the sets are smaller, but still look cute (borderline tacky...but stil cute) but what I like is that it makes the show about the performers and not the spectacle.
Lyrics changes in: OMIGOD ("Don't take the freeway..." replaced)
POSITIVE ("Violence is never wise..." replaced)
LEGALLY BLONDE (Since Emmet is no longer through a door the lyrics have been altered)
THERE! RIGHT THERE!: Little change, instead of "You were not yesterday" they changed it to "You watch Project Runway"
Sorry for the rambling! But yes there are many changes but the show is awesome and definately worth seeing! :)

thanks for all the replies. i got tickets to the LA tour and i was expecting to see the same show i saw when i was in NY. Sounds like there are many changes.

Unfortunately they had to scale down a lot in order to make it financially possible to tour at all since the show didn't recoup on Broadway. The show still works fine without some of the big pieces and some of the new things are pretty cool like how the proscenium moves around and things like that
For scaling down the show they had in the Palace, they did pretty darn well.
After seeing the show twice on Broadway, I thought I would miss some of the production after scale down, but after seeing the show on Sunday at the Pantages, I really didn't miss anything. I especially like the "Legally Blonde" change and the proscenium framing.

i just caught a clip of Omigod you guys on youtube. i find the downsize a bit harder to get used to. Now i'm thinking if the Wicked I saw in LA is downsized as well since i never caught it in NY. Anyone know if the touring version of Wicked is any different?
Did you see the TOUR or the LA sit down? The tour is slightly different than any of the sit downs. A lot of the back drops are just painted instead of the back drop & the cut out of a city. It also uses NO trap doors. The biggest change is the proscenium where no 2 productions are the same.
Here are a few pictures of a few productions.

thanks for all the pics. I saw both the tour and the sit down. i didn't notice any big difference between the two, but i do remember the proscenium was a lot more simple compare to the pic of the Broadway production.

The other chance in the LB Tour is the end of So Much Better, when all the girls turn around and it spells out 'Elle Woods' on their backs. Well you notice they only have 8 girls so the last girl to turn around pics up a bag which has the letter 'S' on

Depending on when you saw the show on broadway (with LBB or Bailey), they also kept the new key used for Bailey in "So Much Better". Out of all of the changes (regardless that it was made on broadway), this was the only one that I was sad to see happen.

I hate that they kept the lower key because Becky is more than capable of singing the original key, I guess they did that just to be safe
