I just finished listening to the demo for the first time, and for those of you who have heard it: what do you think?
I think it may have some potential. It's fun, and some of the lyrics are clever, but I don't know if I could handle two hours of it...
Anyone else?
Two Words: Jerry Mitchell
I have the Faith.
I absolutely LOVE the music! I can't wait to see it.
I agree with you...but read these...

I am reserving judgment until the curtain rises. It's so hard to get a really good idea of a musical of this type (major musical comedy which is really going to fly or sink by the chemistry, energy, etc.) with just a few demo recordings that are outside the context of the show. What doesn't work as a standalone maybe be perfect when all other pieces are in place.
We'll have more than enough time to judge the quality and ultimate fate of the production when it actually opens.
i'm very excited for this show but i think i'm one of the few who seems to be. initially, i felt it was going to be another flash in the pan and now that i've heard the songs, i'm sold.
especially if you view the clips on Broadway.com where Laura Bell Bundy starts crying and talking about how this has always been her Broadway dream... yeah: i have faith
I'm having a strange sense of Deja Vu..
Let's see how many times we can start the same thread over again, shall we?

Any show that has a song titled "OhMyGawd You Guys" desreves the Tony. Right now. Just hand it over to them.
Let's see Sondheim come up with something as brillant as this.

It's having it's World Premiere in San Francisco. Will it be another bomb like "Lennon", "The Mambo Kings" or "Lestat" or a hit like "Mamma Mia", "Wicked" or "A Chorus Line"? All of those had their premieres in SF. Time will tell. I'll be seeing it in less than one month from today.

You're sold on the show by the fact that its star is crying at how happy she is to have a job? If potential ticket sales were based alone on the amount of shows that have drama queens headlining them, then everything would be a hit!

The show does have some potential.
Aww... Wannabeafoster... you seem to like some leading ladies and men on broadway, obviously.
and thats not the only thing that should be hit... erm, 'a' hit.
Did LBB's crying really come off as dramaqueenish to you? It looked really genuine and sweet to me. Maybe I'm easily swayed though. :P

I cried at "Lestat". I cried because I thought this awful show was considered to be something Broadway audiences wanted to see. I hope I don't cry at "Legally Blonde". I'm going in with an open mind even though I HATE the songs I've heard so far. I still love some of the cast from other shows I've seen them in and I'm hoping they took this job because they believe that it will be a good show, not just because they wanted a job.
I can't believe it is opening in SF in less than a month!

jimnysf - I don't care? I wasn't talking about crying from the songs or quality of the show, but Laure Bell Bundy tearing up in the Going Blonde video of the first day of rehearsals.
Lestat was cute.
I personally found the two songs I've heard annoying, but like others have said, it could come together, and I give them the benefit of the doubt. I think Jerry Mitchell is a great choreographer and I wish him all the best as a director. That being said, this is definitely a show which I won't buy tickets for until the reviews come out. I just can't spend $ on stuff like this unless the general opinion is good. I still havn't seen (and probably never will see) Wedding Singer, and I only saw HiFidelity because the tickets were free.
I like the act one closer, "So Much Better", even if some of the lyrics are predictable. It's a great girl power anthem. I already have a ticket for the first preview in SF, and I’m going to give the show a chance.
Anyway I don’t think this show could be any worse than BROOKLYN or JEKYLL AND HYDE (both of which I’ve seen). Besides I want the opportunity to see the world premiere of a new musical since I “unfortunately” missed LESTAT.
I think its gonna be great.
I think we didn't need a whole other thread rehashing the same darn topic. I think we'll have to wait and see what the show is like before we "think" anything. I think I'll post a fair and detailed "opinion" when I see it at the end of Jan in SF. I think Bundy is my only concern. I think they're lucky they have Orfeh, Blake, Karl and Borle in the cast and finally, I think I really hope this isn't a big turd in spite and despite the talent assembled.
I think Al's right and I think I'm really jealous that so many of you are going to get to see it in San Francisco.
What do I think?
1) I think the producers made a big mistake by releasing the demos.
2) I think the movie "Legally Blonde" is FAR more loved than recent stinkers like "The Wedding Singer" and "High Fidelity."
3) I think Jerry Mitchell's work is very entertaining and I hope some of Jack O'Brien's genius has rubbed off on him.
4) Although I didn't like her in "Hairspray," I don't think we've really had a chance to see Laura Bell Bundy do anything substantial yet in NYC so it's too early to say if she'll fall on her face.
5) I think Orfeh is a dynamo and am thrilled that she has such a substantial part in the show.
6) I think I need to book my Jet Blue flight to San Fran asap!!!

I think it's going to be big, loud, crazy, popular, and another wicked for tweens to awe and be obsessed with.
I'll see it if it has rush, because i don't think i would waste over 100 dollars on some effervescent, and perky musical comedy that is going to be like hairspray in terms of song choice and perkiness.
I'm only going to see it for Bruiser Woods
