I would LOVE to see Alex as Valjean. He is truly understated and amazing, I hope the rumor's true.

How about we just take Eden out of Les Mis. I really don't think she's as amazing as everyone makes her to be. Everytime I hear her sing it's just another better-than-Idina-high-pitch-scream fest. BUT I haven't SEEN her live, only heard songs from CDs and, well, yes you know. But personally I don't find anything about her remotely good for any part in Les Mis.

I think Melissa Errico would do justice to a lot of those songs...

Lea Michele is supposedly playing Eponine, and Eden Espinosa has been mentioned before.

Doesn't anyone use the search feature anymore?

The more I think about Alexander Gemignani the more I really like the idea.

However, after seeing Eden perform a few times I don't think she could do the role of either Fantine or Eponine justice (both vocally and acting wise).

Gary Beach has played Thenardier, so that would be great. Alexander Gemignani is WRONG WRONG WRONG for Valjean.

I adore my Eden like everybody else, but not as Fantine.
MAYBE as Ponine, maybe, but probably not.

I would LOVE to see Lea Salonga back as Ep -- that'd be fabulous.
If only they could recreate the dream cast...

I'm confident in Alex as Valjean, I'm not worried about that. Actually, I'm not worried about any of the casting, rumored or not. I'm clearly in the minority here, but I think Eden would be fine as either Eponine or Fantine.

Eden is a terrible actress with a big screaming voice.

She'd be a good replacement Ponine on the 5th leg of the National Tour in Oklahoma; not the return engagement.

But, whatever.

It is fun to wonder who is going to be in the cast, though now I am looking forward to the press release or article that will confirm the cast. Whoever is in the cast, I am going to give them a chance and wait until the cast recording comes out(if there is one), because that and video and sound clips are probably the only way I will be able to see/hear this cast, then I will make a decision on what I think vocally.

Who would you want to be in the ensemble?

Why is everyone dumping on Alexander Gemingnani? He looks the part and is a rising Broadway star. What's the problem?

I really like Alexander Gemingnani, but I think that he's too young to play Valjean. He's turning 27 in July, I believe. I think that he is a great actor, but I don't think he should play Valjean yet. In fifteen years or so I could see him as Valjean, but not right now.

There's a lot I am not certain of...

While I can only speak for myself (and those I've discussed this with), I think some are dissappointed that Mackintosh did not choose to cast Valjean as they expected. He speaks of a "marquee name" and the Valjean role would have been the role to "star cast". Among others, there were a handful of credible actors with a successful Le Miz history that were seen.It doesn't matter who was/was not seen or what they were /were not offered because they were not offered the main role. It was dissappointing, but certaintly not the first time Les Miz actors have been dissappointed.

No doubt, Gemingnani likely made enough of an impression to convince Mackintosh to offer him the role. He's a Broadway actor with a few shows under his belt. I'm sure he's thrilled to be offered Valjean.

The way I see it, they could cast Elemer Fudd and people will come to see Les Miz for six months because it's Les Miserables. But to me it will be no better/worse than what the production was just before it closed. It will give new people a chance to see it for the first time or to re-visit a popular show and it will fulfill Mackintosh's wish. Just my opinion.

Kudos to Norm Lewis, who will be an impressive Javert.

Personally I think Eden's wrong for this show entirely.

I cringe to imagine her singing I Dreamed a Dream - screechfest and not at all beautiful and sensitive as it should be...

and to imagine her singing eponine's stuff...sure, she'd wail at the end of On My Own, but what about A Heart Full of Love and Little Fall of Rain? Atrocious.

I don't despise Eden or anything, but I DO think she has a very particular voice that only works for certain types of shows, and something as legit as Les Mis is not one of those...
just my two cents.

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

How's this for an idea. Allison Fischer as Cosette or Eponine. I could actually picture her singing On My Own.

Looks too young or IS too young? I've never actually seen him in anything, but I can think of a few Valjeans who were about that age or younger when they first played the role. (John Owen-Jones, Greg Stone...)
