"i have to say i'm also not too dissapointed abou this news. I've heard some not-so-great things about this revival, and consequently never saw it...I'll be happy to spend my money on Daniel Radcliffe, however"
How can you make comments regarding a show that you have never seen? Based on others comments - now that is very bright.

Because I've already seen Les Mis (on tour, in toronto AND on Broadway)...and between what I've heard from reviews and posters, what I've seen on YouTube, and from the cast of the revival, I became more and more uninterested in going. If I had more money, I probably would have gone, but my finances force me to be picky with my theater choices.

From the official statement regarding Equus:
The statement also confirms that Thea Sharrock's production will be heading for Broadway in spring 2008, followed by an Australian production. Casting and dates for the New York run have yet to be announced, but London's Daily Mail reports that both Radcliffe and co-star Richard Griffiths have agreed to a May or June 2008 transfer.

Posted: 10/29/07 at 11:39amAs far as I'm concerned, good riddance. The only thing I liked about Les Miz was that it provided the basis of one of Forbidden Broadway's most right-on and funniest sketches. I'm tallking about the original production, which I saw in previews in 1987. If this revivial doesn't "live up" to the original, it must have been REALLY awful. Okay, go ahead and shoot.

It is VERY wrong to be happy that a show is closing and to not feel bad for the actors. A good amount of the actors are ones that we all like and love to se on stage. Our hearts ggo out to them because they will be out of a job. And, as song and dance man said. It is VERY VERY hard to get another job. I would hate to see them have to go through the entier process yet again.
I am a huge fan of both Haviland Stillwell and Becca Ayers. I do hope that they both find jobs soon. Maybe Ayers can return to Avenue Q where she had been a understudy for Kate/Lucy. Maybe she cane replace Mary Faber.

I'm new to posting on the board but have been a long time lurker..so to speak. I've hesitated to post here b/c the tone gets so nasty so quickly.
However, I'm prompted to post b/c I saw Les Mis last Thursday despite what I've read to date on this board. I'll go on record as being very pleased to have seen the show despite the naysayers. I for one am disappointed to hear of the closing. There certainly seems to be room on the broadway slot for this timeless tale.
I've posted this before but I'll say it again...bravo to John Owen Jones portrayal of Jean Valjean in Les Mis. He was absolutely brilliant in the role. When singing Bring Him Home, you could feel the palpable air of rapt attention in the hall. This man simply has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.
Overall, the show was fantastic and the cast filled out beautifully. I was a little disappointed to have missed Lea Solanga in the show but was looking forward to Judy Kuhn's performance. Unfortunately she was out but Rona Figueroa (believe she understudied) did an admirable job.
Robert Hunt's turn as Javert was also wickedly good. He almost stole every scene he was in & was clearly a crowd favorite.
John Owen Jones certainly has a new fan in me! For those who hesitated in seeing the show, JOJ is definately a must see before it closes!
That's just my 2 cents.

Haviland Stillwell has been working on a few other projects, plus, I have heard, some tv stuff? I would LOVE to see her as a regular on a tv show!
I just heard a couple of songs she is singing on that new musical, VOTE! - it's on myspace. Sounds interesting!

Posted: 10/29/07 at 12:17pmGuess it depends on what goes into the Broadhurst next. It's a little bit of a stretch, but maybe some wisecrack about the chandelier just falling might be a possibility (they's both on 44th Street).

Posted: 10/29/07 at 12:23pmPsh. Les Mis is so not closing. They're making this announcement so that people will get all upset that it's closing (AGAIN), go and buy lots of tickets, and then when ticket sales skyrocket, oh, hey, the show will extend (AGAIN).

January 6 is a closing date. The show is presently not open ended.
January 6 is a closing date. It may be extended and run through next summer.
John Owen-Jones may have at most a six-month
contract.
January 6, 2008 is presently set as the closing date.

(of course, subject to change)

Apparently, it didn't change.
I am not happy I was right, but I did then purchase tickets for the final week, including Closing Night Afternoon.
p.s. And two weeks later to London to see Drew.

Put me in the camp of being tired of these kind of posts also. I never feel bad for actors when a show closes. Why? Its the nature of the business. No actor goes into a show thinking "this is it til I retire." Shows open, shows close. Its a constant cycle. And its not only actors who are out of work, its musicians, stagehands, dressers, make-up & hair people, techies, etc etc etc. But being out of work goes with the territory. Acting does not offer job security. Anyone looking for that should not go into theatre professionally. I can't feel sorry for anyone who is living their dream. And specifically in the case of Les Miz ... it lasted longer than originally intended, so those actors I'm sure are grateful they were employed longer than they thought. None of them went into Les Miz expecting to be employed for years.

Posted: 10/29/07 at 12:42pmWhen one show closes, another opens. When one actor loses a job, another gets one. Yes, it is sad that the actors are out of a job, but it will give other actors a chance at a job.

Maybe on the Golf Channel. I could see Haviland starring in the Lorena Ochoa Story.

So p.s, like, when's the closing date again? Not sure if I understood your post.
I think Havilland will find work pretty easily, if anyone would be sort of happy about moving on to something else I think it would be her.
C'mon people, it's totally going to get extended again. The show is still almost selling out, Mac wouldn't waste the opportunity to make some more green and no one would let the broadhurst sit empty for that long.

I'm not happy about this
For those who mentioned Equus having the Broadhurst in May...I thought that it was going to happen in late 2008, like in the fall sometime..can anyone shed some light on this?

Posted: 10/29/07 at 1:43pmActually, hasn't the show been doing pretty well in the grosses? So yeah, bit surprised they are choosing to close it rather than run it a couple more months/years. But not disappointed, it's had it's time on Broadway and it opens up a house for a new show.

Sooo let me get this straight. Actors get into careers that are by definition going to limited projects. And we should ALWAYS be unhappy shows close? Cause i suppose we should just have the same 30 shows always playing since we can't have any close??

I'd like to think that THE COUNTRY GIRL will take the Broadhurst. I was to believe that EQUUS would be coming in May-June also. They were looking for a bow roundabout that time - going by the press releases that last covered the transfer.
Amidst all of THAT, I am very much displeased with this announcement...
Best,
