Do we know if there is any progress on the possibilities of Movie-Musicals of these shows? Les Mis has been talked about since it opened in 1985!!!!! Hurry up, Cameron!!!
Miss Saigon has been spoke about for years and a couple of years ago it looked like it was going to happen but the project fell through. CM Came to see footloose weeks ago and spoke to the cast afterwards and we asked him about the movie version of saigon and he said that it would happen and sooner than we thought so that looks promising. He was saying that saigon would be perfect because of its setting etc but also said he diddnt think les mis would make the best movie.
I'm guessing they'd sooner make a movie out of SAIGON than LES MIS. There has been a couple of LES MIS films during past 10-15 years (one with Liam Neeson and one with Gerard Depardieu) and while not musicals, it might seem like "what?! Yet ANOTHER Les Mis film?!?!"
I always thought that Miss Saigon would make a better film than Les Miserables (even though I love Les Mis. Imagine the Fall of Saigon with full special effects and tons of extras!
I love Les Miz but even I think it would be a hard one to film. Miss Saigon however was made to be filmed, it would be a better film than stag eshow in my view. Its so epic and cinematic. Imagine the sweeping views of Vietnam, the crowd scenes at the fall of saigon. WOW what a movie - fingers crossed!
Both would be interesting as movies... but lets not forget the "shouted" disaster that was Phantom of the Opera The Movie. The only 'gothic' film to be almost day-glow, shouted by most of the singers and dubbed badly.
I saw 'Miss Saigon' for the first time a year ago (the tour in Woking), and came out of the show thinking just how cinematic it could be. I think it would make a wonderful film - there's great music, and a very intense, emotional story. I'd be queuing up months in advance to see this.
