Why is this CD so expensive? Also, how did they pick the cast that performed at the show.
it's not worth buying if it's expensive, i saw it for 6.99 used.
Also, how did they pick the cast that performed at the show. [sic]
Sitting around a card table, arguing about who was their favorite, and figuring out who was available.
Threadjack, but I always wondered this in writing...what does [sic] indicate? That you're taking a quote?
It means "this is how they wrote it". It's usually used when people have spelled a word incorrectly or if their grammar and punctuation is out the window. Such as the following sentence.
Mihcael McGuire was chosen as Enjolras because he performed the role best and hits those top notes with easy and plus his carpet chest is droolable!
[sic]
Oh okay thanks!

By the way, does anyone notice when Cosette is singing "Castle on a Cloud" on the DVD a balloon or something pops and she kind of just jumps for a sec? Kudos to her for not breaking out of character!
She actually crapped all over the floor. You can see one of the ensemble members, I think its Peter Polycarpou (how apropos), slip on it during the jovial moments of "Master of the House."
Um okay lol.
Joking of course. Yes she did very well to do little more than blink.
They picked some of them because they were original cast members (Colm, Alun Armstrong, Judy Kuhn, Michael Maguire) and the others from mainly British productions. Frances Ruffelle was unavailable, so they asked Lea Salonga because she became quite famous in the part for having a great voice and for being the first Phillippine Eponine and such. I don't know quite why they chose Philip- probably since he was popular with Australian and British fans, plus fans of the CSR (plus he was on the Manchester highlights). While I don't think the people they chose were the "best" (how can you say ANYONE is "the best" for sure?), they are pretty good. I sold my cast recording of it because, like you said, it's expensive (I made like $20 selling it used), and it's better to WATCH it. Plus the audience gets annoying to me on audio, especially when they cover up Jenny's lines in Master of the House.
Lea Salonga because she became quite famous in the part for having a great voice and for being the first Phillippine Eponine and such.
Lea never played Eponine in the Phillipines. That was Maya Barredo (another former Kim). At the time of the TAC, Lea had only played Eponine on Broadway, and for only 3 months at that. She played Eponine in London after the TAC.
I think she meant the first Fillippino to play Eponine - not the first to play Eponine IN the Phillippines...

I think they meant that she was the first Filipino Eponine, as in the first person of that race to play the part.

The original cast members of the first production which was at the Barbican ( the show was the collaboration of the Royal Shakespeare Company housed at the Barbican and Cameron Mackintosh and opened in 1985) in London included in the dream cast concert were Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball and Alun Armstrong! The Broadway cast members played the roles only a few years later.
Wilkinson also featured in the Original London and Broadway cast recordings. Michael Ball also sang the role of Marius in the Original London cast recording and the Complete Symphonic Recording ( the full recording of the musical), which also included Philip Quast.

What I'm confused is that I had what I thought was the tenth anniversery cast...but I uploaded it onto iTunes and some songs under artist say "Original Cast" and it has Terrance Mann singing Javert's Suicide and Steve Shocket singing Empty Chairs at Empty Tables...who was the original cast, because ibdb says one thing and then other websites say others...
and which CD do I have?! lol.
And whichever it is I LOVE it, and watch the concert constantly. I assume it's not the concert because there is no applause, and the voices are different...
Steve Shocket was never Marius -- a regular or understudy.

However, he WAS in the OBC. So you probably have the OBC.

Yeah, its like $50 on Amazon.com ... If any of you want to see some clips from the show look at youtube.com - No matter how much I listen to this show, I just can't really get into it. I really like Miss Saigon though. Who plays Marius in the concert version? I didn't think he sounded all that great.

Also, buy it used. It's 10 1/2 years old now. No need to go full price.
Michael Maguire was asked because Philip Quast and Anthony Warlow were both doing Secret Garden in Manchester at the time and the production could only spare one of them. Philip was chosen and Anthony stayed in as Craven.
Or so I've been told.

LizzieCurry (or anyone, really), do you have any idea why Kuhn wasn't on the CSR? It's seems odd that she was in the OBC and TAC but yet not a part of the CSR. I don't mind Tracey Shayne, but I'm partial to Judy.
I dunno. I figured they just wanted someone who was a current Cosette (and American, since they thought Valjean and Cosette should have compatible accents -- but last I checked, Tracy Shayne wasn't a Texan cowgirl
).

"As I look outside I see the breeze
Caress the leaves from the trees
And carry them to all around
Gently laid upon the ground
I see the birds so high above
Their songs sing of our special love
And laid upon their soft sweet wing
Your love to me they gently bring
And as they start their graceful descent
Delivering a message that’s heaven sent
One thing I know and will hold so dear
When I see them fly I will feel you near"

I asked Patti LuPone about the 10th Anniversary of the London production concert and why there weren't more of the original London cast in it?
Her response: "Ask Cameron".
Love her!!

Yeah, i doubt I'll even buy it. I'd rather watch it. Though some of the angles they pick aren't the best. But I love Lea's "On my own." Though I'd have to say Sutton's is the best I've heard. she just blares that end note.
Tenorific - I love the av!
