It's not even Daphne. Yes, she's very bad, but when I saw it Norm Lewis phoned it in, Gemignani was either overacting or staring into space (I will say though, never have I seen a performance of "Bring Him Home" resemble that of a gay love song), Cosette's voice was weak, Marius never acted-he always sang out to the audience, and Gary Beach was just going for the laughs instead of playing the truly despicable character that Thenardier is. The three best performances I felt were that of Celia Keenan-Bolger, Madame Thenardier (who gave the only pitch-perfect performance) and Cosette (depite my issues with her voice). The concert cast is far superior to this one.
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.
