Is there going to be a Revival Cast Recording of the new Les Miz revival?
I like how "RevivalCastRecording" is all one word.
And I bet 90% of the replies you get will be, "I hope so!" instead of a yes or no.
I doubt it. There are already at least four English language recordings still in print...
I think this is really more a "return engagement" than a true revival. A lot of shows in the 60s/70s had return engagements a few years after they closed.
Perhaps if it is a huge smash hit with the cast getting superlatives, it will be recorded, but I think the average person attending the show would be fine with buying one of the existing recordings, so what would the incentive to record another - very expensive - album?
As much as I would love for this cast's work in LES MIZ to be recorded, I have a feeling that they won't.
I agree with Michael Bennett on this one- Maybe if it is a hit, it will be recorded. But I am perfectly content with my London Cast Recording.
Exactly, stick with London & Dreamcast. Buy Symphonic to say you own it, and generally, ignore the Broadway version.
Do we need a 5th recording? I think if it started to get sold people might just realize how much of a gimmick this whole "Les Miz" revival really is.
The London cast is amazing. Shame about the hideous hideous orchestration stuffs. *cries at the memory* Never mind, I love the CSR enough and I have the Dreamcast for a change of pace. :) (Although it'd be nice to have a recording that *doesn't* have Michael Ball... just for a change of pace... XD)
If the cast gets trashed by the critics, there is an even less chance of a recording.

I'm not a big fan of this show and a new cast recording of Les Miserables is beyond unnecessary, but I would love to hear Daphne Rubin-Vega's recording of those songs (I'm not a Renthead but I am a big fan of her work), rumor has it her audition was so mind-blowing that other casting choices were immediately ruled out to give her the role.

Is the Dreamcast of Les Miz a cd? I have the DVD, but I wasn't aware if it was a CD or not. Updated On: 7/29/06 at 08:15 PM

There is a CD recording of the 10th year anniversary concert.

As Fosca said, yes, there is a CD of the 10th Anniversary Concert and it's by far my favorite recording of the show.
A recording of the revival does seem unecessary, but I would love to be able to listen to Gary Beach as Thenardier.

I'd love to have Les Miz revival cast recording! :) Perhaps they can just make highlights CD if full two-CD (or three) is too much.
With four English recordings still in print and still selling moderately well on the market, it is highly doubtful. If the show was a smash hit, then at most a highlights disc will be recorded. It would be much too expensive to record the entire score, or even two discs of the score just for a limited six-month engagement production such as this.

Well, look at Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!!! It has OBC, LA Cast, Canada Cast, Tour Cast, London Cast, and the revival cast recordings!

I'm not saying they are similar but I am saying look at how many recordings Joseph has! Why can't Les Miz have that many or more?
Lizzie...you are so crafty
I should think so. Do you know why? Because they brought back a show that closed three years ago, and it will make tons of money. The would be stupid not to make a cast album.
And I for one will be pissed if they don't.
I just got the les mis complete symphonic recording!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S AMAZING!!!!
Yeah, in a "Most of us have never met and there is no chemistry" sorta way, if that's what you mean by amazing.
I love the CSR best too. It's just a matter of personal opinion really. I love Kaho Shimada's Eponine, Debra Byrne's Fantine and Anthony Warlow's Enjolras more than Lea Salonga, Ruthie Henshall and Michael Maguire. Blasphemy? Perhaps. If it helps, I prefer Judy Kuhn's Cosette and Colm Wilkinson's Valjean. But as a whole, I'll take the CSR any day, thanks. Just as other people would favour other recordings. ^_^

Why does everyone hate the broadway cast recording? Leo Burmester and Jennifer Butt are my favorite Thenardiers and I feel MaGuire, Ruffelle, and Kuhn are the best to their respective roles. I'm not a big fan of Terrance Mann or David Bryant but overall I think the good outweighs the bad.

I wish they would. The cast recording sounds so dated. I would love to hear the new cast - hopefully I'll get to see them.
