I'd pay good money to attend a Sing-Along Dancer in the Dark!!!
I went to Sing Along Grease a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. I also went to a Sing Along Sound of Music in NYC years ago that was a good time. I think sing alongs of those movies work because every inflection is SO well known by most who would attend. It was pretty funny watching a whole theater doing the Greased Lightning hand motions and matching John Travolta's ending note (and pose) during Summer Nights. I can't see the same light-hearted fun at a Les Mis sing along. I'm so glad no one in the theater I was at sang along! The showing was sold out and you could've heard a pin drop through the entire movie. I'm not saying I won't join in with a chorus or two of Do You Hear the People Sing in my living room when the DVD is released, but I think a theater sing along would be very awkward.

The 3rd time I saw the Les Miz movie, my evil friends made the fatal mistake of giggling during Eponine's death. So after that, I whispered as many lines as I could into their ears right BEFORE the actors sang them. Drove them bonkers. And yes the theater was nearly empty so I didn't ruin anyone's time except for my evil, Eponine-disrespecting friends.
Never been to one of those--never want to.Do they shut off the movie person singing or do you actually 'sing along' with them with a bouncing ball?
What a disaster this would be with Les Miz-a theatre full of Susan Boyles--who started this idea?
I've attended three singalongs: Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, and Hairspray. It only worked for the Sound of Music.
As much as I know and love LES MIZ- it's my favorite musical- and as much as I know others who know and love it as much as I do, this is a show that does not lend itself well to a sing-a-long like MAMMA MIA! and HAIRSPRAY do.
A sing-along could only improve the quality of the singing coming from the screen. Go for it!
Best sing along ever was the Outfest sing along for Chicago. 2000 queens singing "he had it coming". FABULOUS.
If this were to happen, I'd expect it to play out like the "Will and Grace" episode where they go to "The sound of Music" sing a long: full costumes, quirky puns, etc. Go big or go home.
