No
I saw it in previews and expected a terrible show, and that's what I got. What I ddin't expect was the talent of the performers to rise above the material to make it a somewhat enjoyable show. I enjoyed it thanks to the actors.
Lestat ran longer than Anyone Can Whistle
Think about it
I saw it and I actually really enjoyed it at the time. As a few other people have said, the best thing about it was the incredibly talented cast.
But. A couple of days later I couldn't remember any of the songs, and I think that was a large part of Lestat's problem: The score was bland and most of the songs sounded the same. It also didn't help that the dialogue was awkward, and they tried to pack way too much action (two books worth) into one show.

i think every and any show deserves to have their work recorded bryan, even if that cd only reaches the cast and creative team. there will always be someone willing to buy it and listen to it and appreciate it. it's a shame they won't because the fan base for this show, and many other shows, is not large enough to throw the expense of releasing the cd back at the studio and producers.

“Um... this is kinda random, but Lestat closed on the 28th, not the 29th.”
It closed on the 29th. I have my ticket stub and I saw it on the 28th.

Carolee was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice. She’s a sweetheart. If you only meet one Broadway star, make it Carolee.
“do you guys think that is should come out on cd soon.”
YES!
No, i don't think it should go onto cd. Only because the songs in that show are not remerable enough to spend the money to put on a cd.
I do think that a cheaper way to put a show on a cd is to to do with the songs what they do at rock concerts. They should hook up a small recording system to the soundboard just like they do at rock concerts when they are recordin thee show for cd. Or what they can do is what rock bands who allow people to record their shows do. They can have someone set up in the back with a taper mic. Those are two ways to record the the music for a show that are A LOT cheaper then putting the entier cast and orchestra into a studio.
remerable
Is that a word?

There are people who want the cast recording you know.
http://www.releaselestat.net/
That's a site for people to get them to release it.

Really? I couldn't tell from the URL...
I would rather they re-released Follies, Sweeney Todd, Sunday, etc., then release Lestat.
any kind of online patition sp? for releaseing a cast album doesn't work at all. The number of people that signe up one thse things NEVER makes it worth going to the trouble of spending the money to make one of these things. Look at it this way, the total number of peopel who sign up for one of thse things is usually the number of people who are willing to buy the damn thing. And in any logical case they usually need more people to be willing to buy the album before they go into production to be sure that they aren't wasting money.
A year or so ago I came across a webstie that had an online potiton for a recording of " In My Life." Bur realize this, the number of people who want to hear the in my life theme song over and over and over again is very low. They knew no one was going to want to listen to it and thus didn't bother to record it.
The only show that ran for such a short time that is worthy of an album is Hi Fi. The reason for that was that this was the first show that failed due to the bashing of people from forums like this one. That show was a prefect exampel of how people come to forums like this one and ask people what they should and should not see instead of making a choice for themselves. I recall listing to an interview with Julia Murney when she was in Lennon. And she made a good point. That a good theatre lover wouldn't go to a forum to have someone make their choice for them of what to see. If they really loved the theatre they would go do rush, studdent rush and SRO for everything and make the choices on what is good or bad themselves. Adn i agree with that statment.

ok, here i go: i saw the very first performance they did in San Francisco. I thought the sets were ok. i did not think they were horrible. i'm sorry but hugh panero, while good in other things, did not act well in Lestat. His accent was unable to be placed - where was he supposed to be from? I loved Jin Stanek and Allison Fischer. The story was the downfall. i will say nothing more except that i liked the songs "welcome to the new world" (the original from sf not the updated for ny), "i want more", and "i'll never have that chance".

Not crazy about the show but I do love Sail Me Away. I'll give you that.

For someone who is such a big fan of the show, you have your information wrong. If you saw it on the 28th then you would have seen the last performance. If you saw Drew as Lestat then you were there on the 27th. Period.
I agree with the person who did not like Hugh's accent in the San Francisco version. Anne Rice had him do this horrible accent at the beginning which thankfully they got rid of by the time the show opened in NY. I think the song they added for Hugh for the NY version, "Right Before My Eyes," is beautiful, but that's the only song I think works outside of the show. I've heard Hugh perform that song at a private cabaret performance last fall and it was so much better than anything I had heard within the show itself.

I saw Lestat at the beginning, middle, and end of the SF run and trust me, that whateveritwas/WTF accent didn't last past maybe the first month or so.
its amazing how long an argument can run for. i think everyone is entitled to their own opinions and if you have nothing good to say, keep it to yourself. i dont think you should tear someone's opinion apart because yours differs.
and if you have nothing good to say, keep it to yourself.
Aha ha ha ha. Sometimes being honest means not saying good things. As for me, I'd rather be honest.

winston, I believe that's how they recorded "The Woman In White" OLC album. The theater was equiped with some hi-tech recording equipment that all they had to do was delete the applause from the opening night. The only track from the soundtrack that saw the inside of a studio was Crawford's "You Can Get Away With Anything" because the opening night recording contained so many pauses for applause they decided to re-record it but they also put that track on the cd.

"Sondheim shows never get the run they deserve"
I hear that.
I saw it and was extremely bored. I am against sleeping during any show, no matter what it is, and I was close to falling asleep during this. There were a few good parts, but apparently not enough to fully keep my interest. I don't think the cast was bad and Alison Fischer was great, but the show itself just didn't do it for me.
