I went to see The Fantasticks last night because I wanted to see Nick Spangler's last performance. But I wasn't aware that I was going to be mesmerized by Lewis Cleale. He was previously in Sunset BLVD., Spamalot, Once Upon a Mattress(w/ Sarah Jessica Parker and Jane Krakowski), Amour, etc.
He played El Gallo like no one I've ever seen before. His voice was absolutely terrific, his acting was just excellent and he brought such a refreshing energy to The Fantasticks. I encourage all his fans to see the show and see this fabulously sexy actor in this great show!
10/10. The best version of "Try To Remeber" I've ever heard.
I loved him in SUNSET BLVD and A NEW BRAIN.
Wasn't he also just in LaChiusa's GIANT at the Signature in DC?
P
Great picture. When did Tyne Daly join the cast?
Lewis Cleale is the real deal. Stunningly talented and very handsome. I loved him in Sunset Blvd. I am so sad I didn't see him in GIANT. I hope that gets a second life in NYC. His voice is perfection and he is incredibly humble and sweet.
Tyne Daly joined the cast last week. She's palying Henry.

I'm glad you guys got to see him live. He is just terrific!!!
I am still in shock after seeing him perform. I waited for him to meet him and the whole cast came out but him!!!
I should go stage door tonight just to meet him. Haha.
Betty, his voice is truly perfection like you say...did you get my voicemail by the way?
A fan asked Nick if he is related to Amy Spanger, and of course he said his name has an "L" and then he told us a funny story; that when Amy joined Rock of Ages people called him up and said "congrats", etc. Because they annouced that "Spanger will join ROA", haha.
Oh and yes, Tyne has joined The Fantasticks and plays one of the male characters indeed! LMAO!

He was in Call Me Madam with Tyne Daly at Encores. They were terrific together singing "You're Not Sick, You're Just in Love."
Thanks for the link Dolly!
Thanks for sharing Paljoey.
He has the most intense piercing blue eyes and his voice is flawless, I am sure he was perfect in Call Me Madam.
Lewis Cleale is fantastic! I saw The Fantasticks the other week because my friend, Kim, joined the cast recently. Nick was pretty in tune with his character and blew me away. And of course...Lewis was a treat I wasn't expecting!
Lewis Cleale is fantastic! I've seen him as El Gallo 3 times I believe and he is really truly phenomenal...the last time I saw the show I took my mom with me and she had never seen him before and couldn't stop talking about him.
Tyne Daly is a hot guy.
I did an interview a few weeks ago with Lewis and he also agreed to do the "5 Favorite Show Tues" segment with me (where a guest selects and plays five of their favorites.) That program will be repeated on Saturday December 26 if you are curious.
Lewis is very nice, easy to chat a with and a great raconteur. (Listen for his story about watching the movie CALL ME MADAM while holding a tin containing Ethel Merman's ashes!)
You can hear Cleale's performance in CALL ME MADAM on DRG's Encore cast disc starring Tyne Daly.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
