I saw the Lion King yesterday for the hundreth time, what happened to the "grubs?" When Timon and Pumba are encouraging young Simba to try some grubs, this automated "buffet" of moving grubs used to slide on from the right and exit left. Yesterday is wasn't there, what happened?

probably just a tech problem

last time i saw it on broadway the 'just cant wait to be king' curtains got stuck again, thats like the second time it happened when i saw the show.

Perhaps it was cut. A few years ago they did trim the show a bit. Wasn't "Morning Report" axed?

Yeah, Morning Report is gone. Thank God.

Yea, Morning Report was cut. I doubt the grubs were cut, I agree that they were having tech problems.

^^^
That's a thread from years ago... Is there supposed to be information in it regarding the grubs?

Wow! Thank you for that link and all your answers. Morning Report wasn't there- I didn't realize, the flying sequence during "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" was gone too. Funny how when "Beauty and the Beast" was trimmed it was a media spectacle. I guess these Lion King nips and tucks didn't warrant making the press.

I would guess that the reason the trimming made to Beauty and the Beast was more widely publicized because it was just a bigger decrease. The set was scaled down and the number of cast members was reduced. The cuts to The Lion King, while reducing the run time, have not cost any people their jobs or come across as making the show look cheaper (i.e. the physical elements have not been changed).

regarding the grubbs, I might be wrong cause it was a while ago, but I think too when the show moved from the new amsterdam, they got rid of the grups that popped out of boxes and replaced them with the ones that I believe all the productions use, where they glide in on a track and have moving elements and are being a tuft of 'grass' rather than coming out of a box/

In the linked old thread, someone mentions (on the 2nd page) that the grubs were cut in addition to some Hakuna Matata dialogue at the same time Morning Report & Chowdown were cut.

There was no track sliding in with box boxes so they're gone- it must have went with the Hakuna Matata dialogue that was cut too. Maybe they shortened Chow Down but its remnants were there yesterday.

I've seen the show several times and can't think of any cuts to "Chowdown." The "Madness of King Scar" has been shortened, including the bits about worms which were really funny.
