First off, they should get real mermaids instead of casting non-mermaids.
It's so wrong to deny mermaids and mermen employment simply because they can't walk or live on land.

Aida Man, a lot of your casting decisions are very good-- though I think Nikki Renee Daniels and Ali Ewoldt should be doing better things than touring with Little Mermaid! And Bret Shuford was a fairly good Eric and a great dancer, but his range really wasn't strong enough...
Although I love the idea of Tyler Maynard continuing on tour (I'd love to see him again-- he was excellent), part of me also wants him to move onto bigger and better things.

First off, they should get real mermaids instead of casting non-mermaids.
First off, they should get another director, choreographer, set designer and costume designer. Then we can talk about the mermaids.

Ariel: Tonya Pinkins
Prince Eric: David Alvarez
Ursula: Harvey Fierstein
King Triton: Nathan Lane (on Nick Adam's body)
Sebastion: Mandy Patinkin
Grimsby: Janet McTeer
Flotsam: Julie White
Jetsam: Cherry Jones
Carlotta: David Burtka
Now THERE's a cast that would finally get me into the theater to see LM.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

"Ursula: Harvey Fierstein "
Is it bad that I'm liking that idea?

Yes, it is touring. It's been common knowledge for a while now.

Posted: 7/22/09 at 1:24pmSince she never got to do it on Broadway, I would like to put Debra Monk's name in for Ursula. I think she could be the best possible alternative to Pat Carroll's performance in the movie.

Posted: 7/22/09 at 1:54pmJames, I remember a thread that talked about potential Ursulas after Faith Prince leaves (which in the end, won't happen) but I put Debra Monk's name down there, I'm glad someone is on the same page with me! She would be amazing on stage as Ursula!

Posted: 10/9/09 at 6:02pmWhy does Julia Murney's name show up every time we discuss casting for a tour? (And you can throw my vote in with either Debra Monk or Harvey Fierstein.)
#19re: Little Mermaid 2010 National Tour: Casting Ideas anyone?
Posted: 10/9/09 at 6:14pmBecause Julia Murney can sing her face off and she's endlessly amazing and incredible and can do whatever the hell she wants.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 6:27pmOh, sorry.. Clarification: I agree that Julia Murney is amazing, but what I don't understand is why it seems as if she is only ever suggested for touring shows.

Heidi Blickenstaff, again.
She was the perfect combination of the Movie Ursula, and the Diva-like one they created for the stage show.

I'm throwing in a vote for Debra Monk. Not that I'd get off my rear end to go see the tour since I saw that freak show on Broadway already...but. Yes, Debra Monk.
"Heidi Blickenstaff, again. "
While I will agree with you that she was a fantastic, albeit different, Ursula...I'd rather see her stay put in NY and do bigger and better things (because God knows she will).
